So, are there any songs that just get to you, no matter how many times you listen to them?

I have a few...
What Are They Doing in Heaven Today? - Washington Phillips
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or1oZ35NA2U
Skin - Sixx: A.M.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M5lZdwOicw
Hell is Chrome - Wilco (maybe the guitar solo that affects me the most ... EVER, yet also probably one of the simplest I've heard)

B.J. Thomas doin' Hank Williams' song 'I'm so lonesome I could cry'...

Did you hear that lonesome Whipoorwill... He sounds too blue to fly... The midnight train is whining low... and I'm so lonesome I could cry...

Just sumpin' about the way ol' B.J. sings it gets me everytime.

cheers!

The entire 'Rumours' album by Fleetwood Mac; Everthing that Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty ever wrote/recorded; 'Suzanne' and 'Traveling Lady' by Leonard Cohen

These, for many reasons. However, if I told you...well.....you know the rest.

'Winter' by Tori Amos. Reminds me of my departed dad rather a lot. Instant blubfest.

"Judas Iscariot" by Rick Wakeman

Other than that, it seems that people cry every time they hear me try to play a guitar, no matter what song it is

SBLS's choice might as well be mine - it's a GREAT tune . There are a huge number of songs that affects my feelings , if the occasion is right. For now I pick this one from Ian Hunter :

Ian is definitely a rocker , but has several slow and melodic songs with great lyrics. If you liked this one , check out ''Irene Wilde'' and ''Ships''

+1 for the ENTIRE Little Earthquakes album by Tori Amos! I always feel sorry for artists when their debut album is by far their best... but Tori is one of them!

Great thread!

There are so many.

"Faded From the Winter"
"Jezebel"
"The Sea & the Rhythm"
"Upward Over the Mountain"
"The Trapeze Singer"
"Waiting for Superman"
"Swans and the Swimming"
"House by the Sea"
"Boy with a Coin"

All by Iron & Wine. Incredible songwriting IMO.

Sweet Child -- Guns n Roses
Angel -- Jimi
Remember the Time -- Michael Jackson
Pennyroyal Tea -- Nirvana
Something in the Way -- Nirvana
Disarm -- Smashing Pumpkins
