fyi:
The emmy Wizard is rated at 92 decibels efficiency, but in not recommended for open back combo amps due to the "possibility" of cone cry "in some applications".
No problem in my drri (wine red ltd. edition). And although it is definitely louder in front of the amp, I noticed that a fender special design (12", 100.1 decibal out of a 2x2 Blues Deville) had more volume listening.........From the back of my drri.
Go figure. Not going back to the slightly less efficient Fender special design anytime soon, but this speaker IS in itself a punchy, musical speaker imho.

I see The Wizard rated at 102.8 dB

You are correct that Eminence recommends this speaker in a sealed enclosure. One of very few that they do so with. That said, Billy Penn is using Wizards in his open back Pennalizer amps. Go figure.

Enjoy your speaker. As you may know, it is the American version of the Celestion G12H30 speaker.

The 102.8 db you mention I think is for the 16 ohm version as opposed to the 8 ohm required for the drri.

On a side note, my tube snob days are long past. Can't compare speakers w/out STRONG tubes in critical spots though.
Aside the mandatory JJ 6v6's I use due to being robust with high voltages, I just be sure and use any strong new production 12ax7 in v2-(vibrato channel.......jj's are fine) PLUS a strong pi tube-(having good luck with new Chinese 12at7's.......stay strong a long time compared to anything out there).
I pulled v1 permanently for better gain on channel 2.

I also tried for awhile.............and then pulled a solid state rectifier. Because the Wizard increased my headroom/volume, I decided not to stress my amp using the higher solid state B+ voltages.
As to whether my power tranny ran cooler w/out the filament drain of a rectifier tube, I found that to be untrue. It seems counter intuitive.............. but the tranny actually ran noticeably hotter with the solid state rectifier in at high volumes---as compared to using the tube.
I ran across some tranny theory from antique radio nerds which backed up my findings on this matter.

Always wanted to try 6L6's in my drri sometime, but am waiting to hear for sure that someone out there has done this successfully over the long term.

Uh, no.

Nominal Impedance: 8 ohms

Power Rating: 75W

Sensitivity: 102.8dB
