I watched this video and loved Niles's incredible rhythm playing. The tone of that strat is poppin' too. The guy is like a one man rhythm section on his own.

I never appreciated disco at the time when Chic were going but i can tell ya i see it all in a new informed light now.

Nile Rodgers, outstanding. 8)

Absolutely fantastic.... gotta love that whole chic vibe.

got the strat fired up for a few barre chord specials and "her indoors" commented that she actually liked my playing for a change!

I then watched Spacer by Sheila and B Devotion followed by Alcazars crying at the discoteque based on the same tune.......... :)

.... ill get my coat

I agree, his rhythmic chops are amazing (see my 'Hitmaker' thread in 'Ask Mike Eldred' forum area.

He has played on more hit records than any other guitarist!

The only problem is that he is kinda full of himself - if you've read his twitter or facebook feeds, you'll know what I mean. I can understand his blog because I've been there too (Walking on Planet C), but wish he was just a bit more humble.

The tone he pulls out of his strat for those R&B funk rhythms is just immense. I didn't know he studied classical and had classical training and stuff. But he knows all the theory and everything. An incredible musician.

I didn't know that he and the whole Chic band more or less made Sister Sledge! I think Nile wrote most of their first album and the arrangements had all that Chic stamp all over them. Madonna's first album as well, Nile's arrangements and Chic vibe are all over it.

Love that strat he's using there! it looks like a hardtail, don't see any hole for the bar, it looks like a hardtail bridge. The scratchplate looks like chrome as well. 8)

He sounds like a one man band when he pulls out those rhythms. Kinda reminds me of the way Jimi Hendrix would play rhythm but with melodies and lead in there too.

What it brought home to me is you can have groups that sound Pop but there's a depth of musicianship behind there that's mind blowing.

I remember when Chic were in the charts and i thought "ah pop rubbish!" How naive and stupid i was for not seeing the real musicianship behind the group.

Thanks for posting, that was awesome. :D

Now I have to go and learn Le Freak, what an awesome rhythm part!
