As you know where you pick can change the tone of what you are playing. Have you found that "Sweet Spot" that you really like and go to all the time?

I seem to like playing close to the neck pickup.

Yeah, me too. 8) Got lots of great tones from that area.

I usually do most of my playing right over the Middle pick up.

I tend to have my fingers pivot just at or below the volume knob which has me picking around the mid pickup. This also gives me a good spot to lay my palm close to the bridge for those muted notes.

Same here. I almost play on the neck I pick so high! It sounds fat that way. When I need some clarity and chime I move down by the bridge, great for arpeggios!

I play between the neck and middle pickups.

On bass (my primary weapon) I play as close to the bridge as I can get. Its the only place I can get the control I need to keep up the speed i need to make the pulsing beat necessary for my style. sometimes I'm hitting twice as many notes as the guitarist.

On guitar (which I mostly use to write guitar parts) I play with my hand sitting directly on the bridge. I slide it forward to palm mute, or in the middle of a chugging riff I push down (w/o using the trem arm) to get a super quick string bend that doesn't slow down my left hand.

When I play with fingers, I always play over the pick-up or a tad behind, very little change.
When I play with a pick, I am always between the pick-up and the bridge, usually closer to the bridge.

I've got scratches on my neck pickup from playing, that's my favorite area to play.

I don't have one sweet picking spot. I switch pickups and pick all over to change the tone (I'm not a user of the tone controls).

Thank you for starting a few actual Guitar Threads, CAF.

Hi Chet,

Mostly between the 20th fret and the
neck pickup maybe an inch or 2 in
either direction.

Cheers.

Different places on different days for different guitars, or at least that's what it feels like. Takes a bit to settle in, then it's play for a while. Sometimes need to jive with tone controls if ears are not happy.
