Depends on what I'm playing but usually between the nut and 12th fret with a tendency to hover around the 5th fret

Different music likes different places. 'Am all the freak over the necks depending on the song and style. And oft, will play the same stuff in different places out of different root strings.

One more part of this writer's overbearing life-flaw of not having a fave type of music or instrument or amp or food or reading-subject or art or style of dressing, either.....

I've been hanging around the 7th to 12th frets for now.

It depends what I'm playing--if I'm strumming chords--mostly I like open chords--especially on my 12 string, but then I do play barre chords all over.

With power chords--all over.

Playing lead--depends on the key.

All around. I love to try to explore the fretboard when I play.

I try to play all around it too, but I always get stuck with two spots

Gmajor pentatonic played all the way to the E1 at the 15th fret, then working back down the Eminor pent (the good ole 12th fret pentatonic minor pentatonic scale)

its just where I dont have to think as much about (where else CAN i go)

I also seem to stick around to the D, G, and B strings more... I just like them more I guess...

Good question, Chet.

I play on the part of the neck that I've been neglecting. Like if I find myself playing a lot of 1st position licks, I'll move to a different spot. Or play a lick on the thin strings, then find it on the fat strings and play it again.

I also like the "in between" Positions. Like playing an A Minor Petatonic scale at the 3rd fret, or the 8th fret.

When I am writing my own songs, I tend to stay near the 5th fret, but the furthest I'll go with chords is the 12th Fret. When I'm writing solos its wherever it sounds best.

I like doing random hammer-ons and pull-offs around the 15th-22nd or the 1st-5th fret. I'd like to do more finger tapping but I'm not very good at it...Need to go take more lessons and eventually I'll just have fun with that.

For rythm, i go for the D, G, B strings around the 7th fret, or for heavy rythm, i drop my tuning, play an open low E and palm mute it, then play a note anywhere on the 5th or 4th string. for solos, around the 15th fret on D, G, B, E

My tendancy is to hang out a lot in the 5th position blues scale box in the key of A or Am, though these days I've been playing both up and down the neck more.

Well, for one thing, the other side is much easier to play.
