I think a lot of us are too hard on GC. Many of us have a guitar we otherwise would not be able to afford paying higher prices at the "mom and pop" merchants, some of whom are out of business. While I regret many independents are no longer in our neighborhood, we must realize that's capitalism we all love, right? These independents are/were trying to run each other out of business. They had no qualms charging you an over the top price when they were the only game in town. As far as broken equip. missing parts... blame the low life customer and thief, not the merchant.
I guess I'm standing up for GC, just like I do MIM. They both take hits by many who think it places them above the fray. That being said, if I was a talented or professional player or just wealthy I would probably shop at pro stores, not GC, Craigslist, or eBay. When I hold one of my guitars I don't think of where I bought it, I'm just happy I have it.

G. C. just opened a new store in Shreveport. Previously I have been to the Baton Rouge and Jackson stores. I hate trying to shop and listen to a cadre of guys banging away on electric guitars all at the same time. They are not going to buy anything they just want to show off etc. I wish stores had separate booths for those folks to sit in. So for that reason I only go to G.C. when I have no other choice, and unless I just need a Gibson guitar I can get what I want at the String Shoppe in Bossier City.

The local GC, had the Pawn Shop Mustang Bass in stock. No other shop locally had it. It followed me home the other day.

Living in Canada I have never been to a GC--there is a chance I will be in Montana later this year, and so I decided I'd look to see if there were any GC's near where I'd be to see what all the fuss is about.

And I generally look for music stores when I travel (Which isn't often)--but I checked GC's site and there are no GC's in Montana...

That's mostly because there aren't any PEOPLE in Montana... ( and why I like it there so much!)

I'll keep that in mind if I do get back there this year--or later.

It's been a long time since I was there...

No people you say?

Lol, the population of Montana is rather low and spread out. Appx the same population as lives in NYC- spread across a state that's 700 or so miles wide, and around 400 north to south. There's No real big markets for a specialty retailer like GC. It's biggest cities aren't very big. Wyoming to the south, is much the same. There's a WHOLE lot of middle of nowhere in both states.
