I have 2 GC's within 30 min rom my house, and a Samash. I've had nothing but very helpful reps at the GC's in my area, but it helps to know your stuff when dealing with them. I had one kid at the GC help me for about 30min trying to figure out a particular function on a boss GT-10 I was trying to create with no success, and was very patient. he even went online at the store to try to figure out what I was trying to do. Guess each store is different.

Hmmm... I have always felt the opposite. At GC, there are always a dozen or so tweeners shredding the hell out of every musical instrument they can reach without a ladder and the salespeople let them and ignore them. ANY instrument at GC that is not bought within two weeks of being put out on the floor is a used piece of equipment IMHO.

On the other hand... go to Eddie's Guitars here in STL and a sales associate will literally follow you through the store with a microfiber cloth. They will ask you what you are looking for. They take everything off the wall and polish it, hand it to you for a brief and ginger demo, polish it and rehang it. If you are not seriously interested in a purchase you will get the getthehellout vibe really quick and there are NO store-hangers or tweeners dropped off by their folks for free babysitting.

In fairness, Eddie's Guitars stocks almost exclusively high-end instruments and custom shop models and, if you are a serious buyer, you are going to get a seriously pristine and immaculately setup instrument.

But I think I could lay down and take a nap at GC and if anyone noticed at all they would just let me lay!

I've spent enough at my local GC that all the sales people there know me by name, just the same as I know all of theirs. They greet me when I come in and can't wait to show me the newest and greatest stuff they've just gotten in or haul me back to the Trade-In Corner to show me a used guitar they think I might like to own.

Last Christmas I gave my two favorite employees each a $25 iTunes gift card - they almost cried.

The only reason I DON'T go in is because I might buy another guitar!

What I sense from all this is a rather uneveness about the operation of the various stores in general. I've been made aware that, as far as the locations in South Florida, the Hallandale store is the centerpiece, with the Palm Beach store running second, and the relatively new Coconut Creek store third. These stores vary in square footage and the amount of stock they appear to keep on hand. Looking for the new American Vintage line in Coconut Creek, I was directed south to Hallandale because "they carry a greater variety of stock''. :? :? Hallandale's Platinum Room was the one which handled the Clapton promo.

Living in Canada I have never been to a GC--there is a chance I will be in Montana later this year, and so I decided I'd look to see if there were any GC's near where I'd be to see what all the fuss is about.

And I generally look for music stores when I travel (Which isn't often)--but I checked GC's site and there are no GC's in Montana...

Good point. I know we've probably frequented the same Guitar centers, I've never had that problem in either one. I feel like I'm bothering them when I ask to buy something.

By the way, how about them Buccos?

That's mostly because there aren't any PEOPLE in Montana... ( and why I like it there so much!)

I'm probably too hard on GC, reviewing my previous post. But some do have an attitude and that comes from the top down. If you are a GC employee and get annoyed at people all the time then get a different job not dealing with the public. It takes a special personality to deal with the public all day and enjoy it. I know I couldn't do it.

Not to mention listening to the same damn currently popular guitar riffs being played, over, and over, and over, and over, and over..................

I heard a variety of great riffs at the one in Manhattan.

Not one person played Stairway either. Only heard 30 seconds of Smoke On The Water. I was in the vintage room playing the Mosrite at the time, and I was joking with an employee, "Isn't that forbidden to play?"

Also, I stuck around in the store for about an hour and a half, most of it in the drum section, but I could still hear it.

I have no complaints with the Hallandale Beach GC. They've always been willing to deal with me and the staff is helpful.

There's a new GC in Coconut Creek?!
