Yo Rob!! Nice to know you're out there loitering. Hate to jump the fence here. I'm thinking that Brad may have too much on his plate at the moment. Mind having a look at our Forum FSR thread and see whether or not you can pinch hit for him here. Seems we're ready, and just waiting on the company. Thanks.

Not necessarily.

My question concerns honest musicians wanting to restore their battered old Fender amps with genuine Fender parts to make them looking like new and not counterfeiters trying to build and sell fake amp clones.

I think Fender sells replacement amp faceplates through certain authorized dealers.

This question has been posed numerous times on both the Modern and Vintage amps forums and as I recall, the answer from Arjay (who I consider an expert in restoring Fender amps), has been "No they do not". Maybe you can get a replacement faceplate for your TRRI through a Fender service center, but not one for your original, vintage Twin Reverb. And to think that only "honest musicians" would buy these parts is optimistic in the extreme.

How about no mounting hardware for the Tele bridge pup cover. I would love to have a cover to rest my hand on. Why do I get the feeling someone wearing a tie had oversight of what gear heads want, need and will buy?

Because there is no "mounting hardware" for the vintage Tele bridge pickup cover. It is a friction fit on the vintage Tele bridge plate. It won't fit at all on a modern Tele bridge plate.

Darn good answer. :)

I see this thread has kept you busy. :D

Guess, I'll have to acquire the right Tele so I can have what I want. Something tells me that might not be so simple, or inexpensive.

I have the previous generation AVRI 52 Tele but don't use the ashtray, although it does look cool.

Though Fender doesn't sell direct replacement faceplates for their original vintage amplifiers, there are other places you'll certainly find those SPAs, incl. eBay among others.

I've never allowed the lack of some replacement part or accessory through "official channels" deter me -- if there's will then there is a way.

Arjay,

I've always appreciated your advice and suggestions and you've been nothing but an inspiration when it comes to restorations. I too have never allowed a lack of a replacement part from and official channel to deter me from getting it.
However, since Fender has opened up a Parts and Accessories store and are offering amplifier replacement parts, then I don't believe it's too much to ask if they could include some of the more used/worn items that deteriorate on an amp. Seems like there are always threads on hear about some sort of restoration or another. Same could be said for guitars, etc.

Bill,

I never intended nor did I see this thread heading in the direction that would perpetuate the sale of fake amps or guitars. I have to live with my conscious, everybody else has to live with theirs.
Oh and how great would it be to hear "yes they do" uttered from Arjay. :D

Well here we are, back in the saddle again, with respect to one of our oft debated subjects. Yes, Virginia, there are the unscrupulous out there who would create a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Trivia quiz! Who said, "You can put lipstick on a pig....but it's still a pig" first?

Ok also absent from the accessories is any sort of P-Bass pickup. Nothing but J-Bass pickups.

The sheer number of different parts needed to keep every Fender product ever made in the field is staggering. Coupled with the fact that FMIC's subcontractors do not produce all of these parts simultaneously and year-round means that the corporate master list of available replacements must be held to a manageable level. Think about every nut, bolt, screw, tube socket, resistor, cap, transformer, speaker, and piece of hardware used in something like a Super Reverb......over two thousand separate parts. Likewise, with a basic Stratocaster guitar. To its credit, Fender does a pretty good job of keeping the basic-and-critical stuff available so the average owner/player can keep his gear road-worthy. For hobbyists like me who restore the older models, there are countless sources of rare/obscure and out-of-production parts which ensures that come hell or high water, we can accomplish our goals. It's a similar situation that fans of old cars face every day. Somehow those '69 Chevelle SS396's and Plymouth Roadrunner's soldier on, just as with the historically-significant products that Fender built forty or fifty years ago.

Arjay

....and in Cuba, they'll make their own parts if need be.

Yes, they are either original vintage faceplates or unlicensed fakes. Take your pick.

You mean like these?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... ass-pickup

The Fender website has never been the most up to date when it comes to smaller items.

Unfortunately it is a fact of life these days. Items that are trademarks or are trademarked (like headstock decals) are very closely guarded.

Notice the difference between an original Twin Reverb name plate:

and the Reissue:

Even though there is no trademark on either one, it shouldn't be hard to guess which one would be the most desirable for creating a cloned amp and passing it off as original.

Precisely. Just Jazz pickups listed in the site's accessories section. Since the '62 is discontinued now wonder if that particular pickup has been cut also. Anyway they surely do make them, but they are not in the accessory section.

From what I recall the products page had the so-called 5-string "Deluxe Active" split-coil humbucker with the asymmetrical bobbins listed for a while.

I think it's the same 5-string split-coil pickup used on the American Standard except the bobbins are reversed upside down to fit into a post-2010 American Deluxe P-Bass pickguard.
