Does anyone know of a kit for a Effectrode Tube Drive? This looks like a killer preamp pedal. And I think it is out of production. Or something similar?

Being able to swap out the tubes is awesome. 8) 8)

Hello Matt: I very much doubt you will find a kit for that pedal, or a schematic, for that matter. The user manual is short and contains no hints about the innards:

http://www.effectrode.com/wp-content/up ... manual.pdf

(BTW: under "Specifications" they mention "Weight: 2lbs (on Earth); 0lbs (free-fall)". Hilarious. And open to discussion.)

Have you studied the website?

http://www.effectrode.com/tube-drive/

It says it was a Limited Edition of 300, so short of combing Ebay for years to come I doubt you are going to find one. You could try emailing the gentleman and asking if anything similar will be coming along soon, or whether he'll custom build you something (sounds like he does that sort of work). Or you could just buy his Blackbird pedal instead. That has all the features of the Tube Drive plus a whole lot extra. Enough knobs and valve switching to satisfy your wildest fantasies:

http://www.effectrode.com/blackbird-vacuum-tube-preamp/

A completely different possibility would be to ask one of the fine and highly expert builders on this very Forum whether you could commission something like this from them. I wonder if Bill/Bluesky636 is interested in custom work of this kind? It's well within his capabilities, and we happen to know he's got his feet up at the moment...

Or you could just become an electronics engineer yourself, like the founder of Effectrode:

When I read that I thought; "Hey, not that Phil Taylor?" Er... no. Not that Phil Taylor.

Cheers - C

There are a number of simple, single tube overdrive/distortion/boost kits on the market, but nothing as complex as this. It appears to be basically a cascading gain tube preamp with an active Baxandall treble control. Although I have modded a number of pedals, I have not built one from scratch. I'm currently working on this:

but only on the weekends as I am working from home during the week while my foot heals. :D

I was surfing the youtube when I ran across that. I briefly checked out the website and learned they were no longer in production. I did not notice the price though. The other pedal Ceri linked to is awesome as well, but 500 US is a lot for a pedal/preamp. You could get a really nice used tube amp for that with a lineout/fx-loop and use that if you wanted. Something about this pedal really appealed to me though. I could see 150-200 US but beyond that you might as well get an entire amp. Maybe I could sell a kidney or my good eye and get one.

Bluesky, what did you do to your foot?

It's a tube driven distortion. I built their 5 watt amp over a year ago and it sounds incredible.

That looks like a cool kit. I thought someone here built one. From what I remember it worked well. The video had them trying different tubes, I think. I may be combining stuff in my head again.

All their kits are true point to point wiring. Like I said, I built their 5 watt amp and use it on rehearsals with tow 112 Egnater cabs. True PTP requires a little more patience, but it's really fun and rewarding to build something the real old school way. No PCB or Turret Board.

Blackstar also make tube driven pedals DM, tube count has reduced though from 3 in the effectrode , 2 in the EHX, to a paltry 1 in the blackstar, don't know if that's of any cosique...consikwenc...matters
