Richie had a decent career going when keyboardist, David Bryan and JBJ were gigging in a soul/r&b/cover band called "Atlantic City Expressway" back in '78.

They all got together as "Bon Jovi" in '83 and David Bryan is featured in the current MF catalog's interview of the month.

......and "The Rolling Stones'' were supposed to be Brian Jones' band. Just showstagoya what can happen if you blink. :?

David Bryan is very talented himself. I think that Jon is talented but his ambition and marketing sense far out weigh that.

I gotta agree with you on that score. I own the solo CD he did years ago. The one on which Clapton guested on the track "Mr. Bluesman". I never cease to enjoy listening to it and wonder how some of these artist's manage frack their lives up their noses when so many of us would have enjoyed a better shot at the brass ring. Maybe Sambora ought to take inspiration from his influence and find his way to The Crossroads Center and help.

I was never a big Bon Jovi fan--their music doesn't do much for me--but some of Richie's solo stuff was quite good--and showcased his playing much more than Bon Jovi ever did.

I was at the show in Calgary, and it was evident that Jon was unhappy about Richie not being there. Although it did not seem like anger towards him, it felt more like he was sad, and he came across as wanting the best for Richie. It sounds like it is something fairly serious, and quite frankly, I don't buy into the whole "Richie left that band" thing. These guys have always been a class act, and I couldn't imagine one of them bailing in the middle of a tour for no good reason.
Also, Jon said that he got the call at 3:30 that afternoon. You would think that if it was this big of a dispute, that Richie would have said something long before the day of a show.

According to the latest news Jon kicked Richie out due to drug and alcohol abuse. Who knows if we will ever find out what really took place.

What's your source of news for this?

I've been informed that the tension built up between the two of them and it's a classic chill-out period (a la Jagger/Richards or Tyler/Perry, etc). This is what a friend of his daughter has said.

It does make for wild music biz news and headlines though. This article claims JBJ's wife is pulling a "Yoko" on them :

I have read the same articles. The ones that put Jon,s wife at the center of it. Understandable that she would want a clean tour considering the daughter had a heroine od late last year at college I believe.

I really hope that it is just tension and not substance issues. The info I have posted is all online at Online Mail. I think Richie is a great artist and wish him all the best. If its a buisness decision while we have all faced those and if he is away from the band for other reasons I hope he gets what ever help he needs.

I like Richie... but I don't think he melded himself to the Bon Jovi label like Slash did to the Guns n Roses label. I will NEVER consider any lineup to really be GnR unless Slash and Axl are both onstage together. But I don't feel the same way about Bon Jovi... as long as Jon Bon Jovi is front and center, well, it's Bon Jovi to me!

I do think Richie might have made a career mistake not getting out from under Jon's shadow during their heyday, but who's to say! And although I understand it is a big part of Rock n Roll, I detest megagazillionaire rock stars who have everything and are living the dream but can't keep their noses clean enough to stay out of rehab.

Jon is saying that Richie left on his own accord and other than the reason of personal issues he states he does not know why and has not spoken to him either. Kind of strange.

Bon Jovi is like a heavy metal version of the Eddie and the Cruisers band. All they're missing is a little Italian lady on tamborine with a rose in her hair..snappin' her fingers and all that.

Another beatiful song is Richies cover "When a blind man cries", originally by Deep Purple!
...
Ok, this is my personal order:
1. Stranger in this Town
2. When a blind man cries
3. The Answer
4. Living on a prayer

In my opinion he's getting a lot done. With or without Bon Jovi

All the best Richie!!
