Why is everyone down on Epiphones? From my experience they are pretty good guitars (I hate to say it, but compared to squires I like them a lot better.

I agree! Epiphones are not bad guitars. The lower models, like the bolt on neck LP copies and the SG G310 are pretty poor but beyond those they're quite reasonable!

Ditto. Those Chinese made Epi's are decent quality guitars these days. Certainly the equal of the MIM's.

I just bought an Epi G400 deluxe for my son to have when he's old enough to learn. It's made in China, but in the Epiphone Custom Shop. It actually looks and plays well. I figure that it will be one heck of a starter guitar in the future.

i dunno, but when he gave the discription, he sounded like he thought it was normal, okay, and cool...

As horrible as it is--in one sense it would be an appropriate guitar for the way some guitarists play.

But I still would have to vote for it as the worst.

My first "real" guitar, a Norma acoustic made in Japan in the late 60s. Total junk, almost unplayable, completely out of tune all the time. I don't think it even had a truss rod in the neck.

First Act guitars are horrible. Then again you have to start somewhere.

After a while you learn that buying First Act is a TERRIBLE mistake. Just my view personally, start out on something that doesn't sound like crap (or in this case, like a plywood box), like a Fender or Epiphone.

Especially if they're well set up. Bought a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and its tone is, if not warmer, than my 1961 Gibson Melody Maker. I've also never had trouble with it (maybe its because it was set up by professional musicians at the shop I bought it from).
