Just got back home with a shiny new Boss SL-20 Audio Pattern Processor (says on the box) or a slicer pedal to you and me. Had a good old play with it, started Cubase, made the slicer sync up to the MIDI clock and pressed record. So the playing's sloppy as all hell and there's WAY too much effect on it but hey, no point buying a pedal if you can't overuse it as soon as you get it home is there?

So this is a clean Stratocaster, overdriven Stratocaster and a Jazz Bass all on different slice patterns ...

.. and if you drop a drumkit on there, EVERYTHING falls into time (except my sloppy over-excited playing).

Bit tricky to use, probably very easy to OVER use but a very neat effect for rhythmic tunes. Going to try it with tempo-matched delay later. Must remember to eat some food instead of playing with my new toy all day. Apparently it's even a loop pedal, not got round to trying that yet but WOW this thing is fun.

Hm. Well I'm bound to admit a slicer has got to be almost my least favourite pedal. And yet, your track kinda makes an argument in its favour. Blimey!

Will I be rushing out to buy one? No. Will I be fingering the dust off the slicer button next time I power up my Boss multi-FX unit to see if I've been unfairly ignoring it? You know what? I might.

Congrats on you new pedal. Enjoy it.

Oh, and your playing is just fine and not "sloppy" at all - as you very well know. :)

Cheers - C

I've never even heard of a slicer, but that sounded great to me. 8)

Made me want to jam along which I'll have to try out when I'm home later.

haha, I wasn't expecting that!

I need to get this thing recorded through the proper tube amp, that was just done through a Line6 Pod. The Marshall makes the floor vibrate in tempo.

EDIT: there's a new version up now with the Marshall throbbing away
