I thought Fender would be more likely to buy Gibson--that's how I spotted the April Fool's Day joke....

I always though Fender should buy out Ibanez and come out with a new series called the "Law Suit Specials" They could take Ibanez back to their early days back in the '70s, or so. Maybe some sort of tag line like "The guitars we should have made, but called our lawyers, instead." :P

Their LP's were better built than Gibson's or so I've heard.

What I really find ironic is they have a warning about buying counterfeit Ibanez guitars on their site, since that's who they started out. Although, I'm sure there is a massive quality issue these days with copies, compared to back then.

The other difference is they put their own name on the lawsuit guitars as opposed to today's counterfieters who try to pass their copies off as the genuine article complete with fake logos....and Ibanez and the others from back then were making guitars of such quality that the major brands were worried the copies would outsell their genuine guitars... todays fakes are a threat because their quality is horrible and since there is a fake logo, it could fool someone into thinking it's a really crappy fender/Ibanez/gibson or whatever.

Exactly. I've seen one of those websites. A so-called "Fender" that costs something ridiculous like $50, and $300 or $400 to ship. They even had Fender logos on Music Man or Rickenbacker bodies. You'd have to be a fool to even fall for that, sans the fact they are illegal.
