The Firemist Gold Electric XII Andy plays on the video is the same guitar George used during the Japanese tour in 1991.

Clapton was also a notable user of the Electric XII; he used the guitar to record Dance the Night Away, a jangly track from Cream featured on the Disraeli Gears album released in 1967.

In the first 'Crossroads' box set there's a track with Carlos Santana doing a typical Afro-Cuban Rock interpretation of the old blues song "Eyes To The Blind" which is really cool.

Eyesight To The Blind was later covered by B. B. King and David Gilmour.

The version of If I Needed Someone I've had posted years ago was taken from the Concert For George in 2002. Clapton sang this chiming Beatles tune playing rhythm guitar.

In relation to the "other" EC thread currently rolling, this could be one of the reasons Clapton is a big deal...his ability (and desire) to bring together so many top-notch, high-tier musicians for things such as the Concert for George, his Crossroads Festivals, and even his touring bands themselves...

I remember going to see him a few years ago, and he had Nathan East, Billy Preston and Andy Fairweather-Low playing behind him...all of whom are primo at their respective instrument and stars in their own right...shoot, I would have gone to see that band whether Clapton was fronting them or not!

Think about the people who have passed through his band(s) and/or recordings through the years:
The three aforementioned legends, Doyle Bramhall II, Derek Trucks, "Duck" Dunn, Jim Keltner, Duane Allman, Ray Cooper, Mary Levy/Marcella Detroit/whatever, (the tragic) Jim Gordon, Bobby Whitlock, and just a few dozen others...

...and remember that he played on other people's albums/performances as well--the Beatles, Roger Waters (Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking album), Richie Sambora ( :| meh), Buddy Guy, John Mayer, BB King, Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin (to whom he gave access to his guitar vault, and said, "Take your pick!"), Freddie King (Clapton admitted that he was "schooled" while playing with FK), Howlin' Wolf, the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones, etc., etc.

Pretty heady stuff, and a lot of humility and benevolence to be able to pull that off, whether you like him or not.

It seems most of the people who don't like him, don't like him because of either jealousy (one particular hater always references his custom Ferraris, like that's a reason to hate someone  ) or because of their own pretentiousness, (i.e., "He's not as good as my favorite unknown guitarist/this particular fill-in-the-blank guitarist, he's too mainstream, etc.") and a fair number of people don't like him because he's a white Brit playing blues (which might qualify as a racist sentiment, in my book...would they get upset about a black guy playing C&W?).

...and I don't see how you can fault a guy who says this about his own abilities:

"I never accepted that I was the greatest guitar player in the world. I always wanted to be the greatest guitar player in the world, but that's an ideal, and I accept it as an ideal".

Have mercy.

I'm just off a personal communication with Miami Mike regarding the band on the current tour. Stainton is the only real Clapton old-timer amongst the lot. Bramhall's gotta be considered relatively Clapton-new though he's done a lot of work with him and is a great asset in terms of the acoustic blues Clapton's doing as opposed to Andy. We are missing East, and Ferone for sure. As far as Ray Cooper, way back there in the perscussion section, is concerned, he was an act unto himself, performing within his own inner circle, and had to be seen in person, to really be appreciated. All in all, though, I'm told, it's been quite a show.

As far as Ferrari's go....there's popular spot in my town where the exotics are lined up at the curb, two by two by the valet parkers.
Had an early dinner there with the wife last night. So whilst waiting for my simple set of wheels, I'm browzing a Bently convertible, a Ferrari convertible in this awesome wine finish, a red Ferrari coupe, and a Masserati convertible. Now if Clapton's new ride is anything like the first Ferrari I mentioned, OUCH!!!! I've never been fond of Ferrari's, the older ones looking more like roller skates to me, but these two were just my size. My wife now knows exactly what I want for Father's Day. She said I could have one when she becomes a virgin again. So I'm shopping for a really good genitourinary plastic surgeon. Once that's done we'll check out the 'back seat' of my new Ferrari.

That's a nice, classic, BB King, jump blues version. The one Clapton does with Santana is a whole 'nuther' thing entirely.
