Hello all,

Over a year ago I asked my local guitar shop to hold a guitar for me. They actually called me the moment they found out they were getting it and asked if I would be interested in it, and of course I was. This guitar was the Epiphone Ace Frehley Budokan Limited Edition Les Paul. There was only to be 1000 produced, so needless to say I was very anxious and excited to get mine.

This was over a year ago this occurred. Unfortunately, no guitar has arrived from Gibson. The guitar is still on order, and every database and order log they have still has it in the queue to be shipped to them but Gibson keeps pushing the date back.

So my question is, does it really take more than a year to produce a limited run set of guitars and ship them out? All other places like Musician's Friend, GuitarCenter, and Sweetwater have the item listed as discontinued or sold out. Thank you all! I realize this is the Fender forum, but you guys are all much more knowledgable in every aspect about the industry.

Sounds like a handjob to me......

If you see one of those guitars anywhere else, my advice would be to grab it.

I stand corrected. I just checked the Guitar Center website and it looks like they're available again. There are two in stores in my state. I'm unsure now if I should stay with my mom and pop store loyalty or just bite the bullet and pick it up at GC...
If GC just got more in stock, it gives me hope that my store may be getting theirs soon.

I had an experience with Fender when I ordered my '57VHR Stratocaster. This is a production line instrument which literally took 9 months to arrive from the date of order. What apparently was operating here was a priority production schedule, and the vintage line seemed to be on the low end of the totem pole that year. In terms of what I'm seeing of the kind of product line Gibson is marketing, this may be the case with you. First, confirm that you CAN get it from GC.[Personally, I don't trust anything they tell me. They've got a bunch of rank amateurs running some of their operations.] Then, out of courtesy I'd get in touch with the people you placed your order with and tell them that you've confirmed that GC has it, it's available to you, and you intend to move forward with GC if your original order cannot be accommodated in a timely fashion.

Bear in mind the following:
My original order was placed with GC store. The order goes from the store into their online system. Because the guitar was on back order, their system was automatically cancelling me because it seems it can't hold a back order more than 60 days unless the purchaser renews the order. It happened twice. They never notified me of the expirations. Once cancelled, it has to be re-ordered. Hence, I moved my order to a Fender Showcase dealer in a town nearby. I don't do major guitar purchases with Guitar Center any more.
