Well folks......I can't stop the GAS from spreading. As soon as I buy something I have been GASing over the GAS doesn't go away...... it just morphs. I need some GAS-EX!!!

My GAS continually evolves and my latest obsession is an octave pedal. I REALLY want one and want a GOOD one even though I can't afford a good one and have never had one or thought about one much before. I am probably going to get either a Behringer SO-400 or a Behringer US-600 or maybe BOTH due to the fact that they are affordable at under $50 each.

HOWEVER...... my research has brought to my attention both the EHX POG2 and the EHX HOG2.

These are both REALLY expensive pedals (around $325 and $475 new respectively) and they would be "toys" to mess with (who knows how I might work them into my current/future material if at all).

I have definately talked myself out of the HOG2 (just way too much $) but haven't closed the door on the POG2 but don't think I would ever be able to pull the trigger on a pedal that costs more than my nicest guitar (without case).

I guess what I am asking for in this thread is any feedback any of you might have on the POG2 or the HOG2 or the Behringer SO-400 or a Behringer US-600.

I ask this in hopes of either being talked out of spending $325 on a pedal/"toy" or being convinced that it's worth it and adding the POG2 to my board instead of one or both of the Behringers.

I'd buy the Behringer just to see if it's the sort of effect you'd actually keep using, then if you like that sort of thing, plump down the cash for a (much better sounding and far more flexible) POG or HOG.

A friend bought the US-600 - it's actually not bad at all, particularly for the money, aside from the fact it suffers from the usual Behringer syndrome of switching it on and suddenly being blinded by the blue LED which burns with the power of ten billion suns.

That's mostly what I do these days when I get the effects urge - I grab a budget version just to see if I'll actually use that sort of thing rather than stick it in the cupboard after a couple of days, and then if I like the general idea of it and want to explore it properly, I buy a decent one.

Weirdly, in the case of the Behringer PH9 phaser, I still have it on my main board - it sits between two pedals which cost ten times the price, but it just sounds pretty damn good regardless. I did, however, uprate the LED resistor so I could actually see at darkened gigs when using it.

You could also get an all-in-one effects pedal like

http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/ms-100bt/

and play with all the godly effects known to man without breaking the bank, and then decide on which affect you really want to get a boutique version of.

I have the MicroPog and love it... you can dial down the dry signal and crank up the sub octave and play convincing bass lines (assuming you have an amp/speaker that can handle it... it;s fine through my Twin) The octave up is fun but I don't use it much. Dialing in more of the dry signal and rolling off the sub octave provides lots of super cool octave effects... sounds KILLER in combination with a envelope filter... Very Jerry!

I used to have a Boss OC-2 and the tracking was pretty ho-hum unless you played single notes... I know some like this quirk of the Boss Octave pedals but it's not my thing.

I have no experience using the big brothers to the MicroPog but I'd say go for it... I'm sure they're fun but if it's an octave up/down pedal you're after this one does the trick nicely.

I was just getting ready to post something about the Line 6 M5... it's killer and has an octave effect as well as 99 other stompbox models. With an expression pedal it's awesome... and they just dropped the price to $129. It's kind of a pain to get all the settings just the way you want but the time spent will keep you from gassing for any new pedals soon.
