Hey all,

I have been playing with with Ernie Ball 9-46 strings for awhile now and have never had a problem with them they are great strings. But yesturday i went to my local shop and they didnt have any in stock till next week so i decided to buy a set of GHS Boomers 9-46. WoW I am amazed by the difference in the sound. I think I have found a new fav.

What are your favorite strings and how did you discover them?

Thanks,

Dave

Ernie Ball 9-42 super slinky's for the Jackson, Fender super bullets 10-46 for the Tele, and D'Addario 12-53 phosphor bronze for the acoustic.

Always Ernie Ball, always 10-46 set. I've gone up to 11-50something in the past, anything less than 10 feels like rubber bands to me.

Someone told me all guitar strings are made in one factory and people just put different brand names on the packs.

I rarely play the Jackson, but when I do I trip out at how easy is to bend notes, and how far I have to bend them. 10-46 is perfect for me, I would install 10's on the Jackson but the FR trem is set-up for 9's. It would take me hours to set that thing up if I install 10's.

I was a devoted DR and Rotosound person for years, until I picked up a friend's guitar strung with Optima Chromes last year.

One bulk purchase later, and they're all I use now on my electrics.

I used to be a hardcore heavy gauge player after brainwashing myself for far too long that anything less than 13's on a Strat was for wimps, but I'm back down to 9-42 (10-46 on a shorter Gibson scale) these days, and loving every minute of it. It's nice to be able to relax again, not to mention being able to pick up other people's guitars and not have them feel like they're strung with wet noodles is nice. I've noticed the annoying pains I was getting in my left wrist have disappeared as well. Bonus!

Acoustics still get Rotosound or DR though - tried a few Optima acoustic strings and thought they sounded awful.
