Mine will be delivered Thursday! :)

What amp is recommended? Beefy guitar amp?
or bass amp with a horn?

It plays low like a bass, and I don't want to damage my guitar amp speakers.

But you can chord with it, lots of jazzy chords, etc. And adding some delay, KUELL!
And some tremolo? Very versatile!! And it would seem a guitar amp would be better for that.

Or a bass amp EQ'd appropriately? But I think EQing to sound good for higher end chording and riffing would lessen the bottom end when playing down low.

I'm thinking a rig like Darryl Jones uses. (Rolling Stones current bass player)

Powered PA sub woofer and a pair of powered PA 1 12 cabs with a horn. Let the crossover do it's job! LOL

What suggestions do you all have? Anyone using a guitar amp? or bass amp?

Comments appreciated! Thanks. Wayne

Despite there being six strings it's still a bass. Use a bass amp.

I have only heard recommendations for bass amps with Bass VIs. Don't ruin a good guitar amp!

If you intend to play out, then Fender's Rumble 350 Combo is one of your better choices.
However for personal jamming & recording Fender's Bronco 40 is a very versatile choice.

I use a guitar amp, mainly because I don't own a bass amp and don't want to buy one  Just turn up the bass and put down the treble, it's that easy.

The bass player with the last band that I was in used a Peavey TNT bass amp with a 15" speaker and an 18" extension speaker. The sound from that little brute was enormous and could bring down walls if it was run on bust.Traynor used to make a couple of killer bass amps back in the 70s and 80s.The 200 W Big B had a cabinet that held 8-10" speakers and you could feel the thump from it in your rib cage if you stood within 8 feet of it. They also had the wonderful Monobloc with a foldback 18" speaker in a monster bass bin. These amps occasionally come up on ebay, are usually quite affordable and go for much less than they are truly worth.

Hey, all. Thanks for the responses. But you all missed
the intent of the question. Except for the first reply.

My question wasn't what bass amp should I use. I have plenty
of guitar and bass gear.

My question wasn't about playing "A" bass guitar. It was
specifically about playing a FPS Bass VI 6 string baritone guitar.

I'd asked if anyone had experience with that particular guitar.
And what they played it thru.

If you're going to play a bass, play it through a BASS AMP. Don't screw around with a guitar amp. In most cases, you'll be getting a bass amp anyway. Don't screw up a good guitar amp with the bass. Bass frequencies don't do guitar speaker's coils any favors. That's why they make Bass amps. It takes more power to drive the bass, that's why you'll see the watts on a decent bass amp really stating at about 250 watts and up. If you do get a HF Horn on a bass amp, try to get one that has settings for the horn. You may not want as much horn, or none at all sometimes. Just my opinion.
Have fun with your new BASS! Image

I would think that any amp with a good quality speaker should be OK for use with a baritone guitar since the strings aren't tuned as low as a bass.If an amp can handle the lower frequencies that are reached by lowering the pitch with a whammy bar, then a baritone guitar should be OK to use too.

With all this regular guitar speaker, bass speaker, why not contact a speaker manufacturer, Jensen, or your choice of speakers, and ask them. Jensen for one makes both types of speakers.

to answer your actual queation . which is a barratone guitar what amp?

either way use a bass amp use a guitar amp. doesnt matter as long as you get the sound you want.

what ive heard of that guitar its not a true bass or true guitar its in between.

ive seen it used in a film or two.

ive got the same sound out of a standard guitar using an octive pedal and shutting down the treble edn. played either through a bass amp or a guitar amp.

so what you should do is try the amps you have and see which you like best.

I play a TNT with a 2/15" extension cab (thanks Derek). 600 watts and you can overdrive it, direct into GK backline 600 2/15 Sunn coliseum cab bass kickin' treble rolled off.
