I'm trying to figure out how to wire a momentary push button switch to a simple piezo disc pickup and jack. There are 2 terminals on the momentary switch..but I have no idea how the wires connect to the pickup. The piezo disc pickup/ jack is already wired (soldered). I'm just trying to figure out how to incorporate the momentary push button switch. The switch is from radio shack part 275-1566. It has just 2 terminals that are solder type connections..but what wire goes where. I've looked all over the Internet but can't find an answer as to how to wire it to the pickup/jack. Than you

Given that the piezo pickup is almost certainly connected to the output jack with a thin shielded cable, I don't recommend doing this. You potentially will end up with a lot of noise on the line.

Not sure what you'll end up with sound wise. I assume the momentary switch will activate the piezo pickup only when pressed. I think you would just wire the hot from the pickup to one terminal on the switch and the other terminal would go to either a preamp or the output jack hot. Then run the ground to the ground side of the output jack.

The momentary switch just sits in the hot wire and interrupts it or connects it.

Pickup (+)---------------switch--------------(+)output
Pickup (-)-----------------------------------(-)output

Not sure what this will do. You will probably have to turn down your magnetic pickups in order to hear it (the magnetic pickups are much louder unless you preamp the piezo), and it will only sound while the button is pressed. Now, I have never done this. I'm just going on what seems correct to me. Someone please correct me if needed. Please let us know if it turns out cool. Also, what is your goal with this?

What you say is correct but I do not recommend doing it as the wire from a piezo pickup is a shielded cable and you would have to cut into that cable to access the center conductor. These cables are thin and delicate, not at all like a heavy guitar cable and are easily damaged. Plus, you have now broken the shield integrity which opens the pickup to all sorts of external noise. The whole plan is a bad idea that I don't recommend.

It's for a cigar box type of guitar where I drilled an extra hole by accident ...I had this part that fit perfectly in the hole ...maybe will just be decorative or will get a volume pot at some point.

It worked...just noisy and pops like a piezo does unless distorted...star trek like stutter button pretty cool.

Not really... Hoping to find a fix... Or a replacement eventually with a volume pot

piezo pickups can sound pretty cool if you mount them properly. I've built quite a few cigar box guitars. I use clear silicon to mount them. Position is also important. I've also built six string cigar box guitars with Dano lipstick tube pups and I have one in the works using a P-90'
Go to either www.cigarboxnation.com or www.cbgitty.com for wiring diagrams and tons of information, parts and everything CBgitty!.
