What pisses me off most is people who ask you over to jam and the session just turns into me giving free lessons.

It is good to provide knowledge but it should be a two-way street. If someone wants to 'jam' and is really interested in lessons, it is time to consider charging for your time.

Yeah, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, it's just when I'm asked to jam I kinda expect we're gonna play music. Throw our a riff and see where it takes us. Not teach a guy two or three songs. That's not jamming.

I've had that too. All I want to do is jam, make music, have fun. Not teach johnny how to use bar chords. That being said it does have it's rewards. the only problem is when they think I can teach them to be Hendrix after one sitting.

Maybe an exaggeration, but they expect to learn advanced things when they don't know thier basics. That or they try to make you teach them a song they are crazy about at the time that you don't know. Or start to play some 3 note riff with that "i'm a genius" look on thier face.

In my experience, jams either work or they don't. It's not always about ability either. Sometimes it's compatability. Send me to a Dead jam and I will go home.

So, pick yer partners. Match skill levels and taste in music and you will have a ball. Otherwise, you will be giving lessons.

Life is an ongoing experience. When someone says they can or can't play, it's subjective. For speaker and listener.

Whenever one chooses to interact with others, each person comes with different 'stuff,' but is doing their best at the moment, given their prevailing level of cosmic awareness.

That was one of the hardest things ever learned and it still aches to think it.
'Just try to be mellow.

And by the way, 'am in no, repeat no way a guitar hero.

I've been playing for half a year and I've taken numerous lesson month after month...Doesn't mean I'm anywhere near good though. I can play some things, but I will also be the one to say, I still suck ROYALLY at the things I CAN play.

But I play for fun, my enjoyment, not for gigging or anyone else.

yeah i hate that. its almost as bad as when people say"oh you play..are you good....can u play thunder struck ?" like being able to do hammer ons define you as as guitar player. i know people with no rhythm can play thunder struck.
