Well it sounds more dignified than "My turn in the barrel." :oops: :lol: Here is my latest jam, a little heavy psych. Feedback is invited, including constructive criticisms - it's okay to say you don't like it, but please explain why. Thanks for listening.

The YT embedding doesn't seem to be working, but here is the link.

Suddenly there is a big wave of people ''throwing themselves in the barrel'' :!: I will say I have some roots into heavy music , but I'm not a big fan . This was rather heavy ( IMO)
Still I can tell you I really liked this one . The overall sound , chord progression , rather slow ,suggestive rhythm - and great lead . Keep up the good work :D

Thanks A-man, I'm glad you liked it! And I really appreciate the critique of why you liked it.

You are welcome. I was a bit excited after the first listening. After listening again , I could have wished a bit more exciting lead, some more variations. But that's me :) Still think it's great 8)

Ah, got it, thanks. I'll try to work on that - perhaps building to crescendos with the lead more?

Think I would go for a bit of variation in the lead sound - and use some longer notes with more melodic lines in-between . And maybe even some more staccato figures . Consider some wah ?
:wink: I guess you soon will hear from others , as well !

Damn, that is a cool track! Reminds a bit of Alice in Chains but darker.
Some of the lead parts sound almost like surf guitar to me, which is a trippy mix with the heavy backing.

I'll try to embed it here to see if it works for me:

Thanks Klowenst, glad you liked it! I did a lot of tremolo picking in this one to try to make it sound more dramatic and a little faster than I usually play.

And thanks for embedding it, it looks like it worked. :D

The forum won't embed the clip if you use the 'shortened' YT URL's. You have to use the long version.

Unto the breach.

Quote:
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;

That is one bada$$ jam. Like it a lot. If it was me I would build melodic solos then return to the jam, maybe follow it an octave higher or fade into it with long vibrato notes. Then go crazy and repeat. That jam alone carries itself, so don't think you have to solo every second. Also, during your chromatic lick don't be afraid to continue up or down after a few bars. If you like that kind of thing try this: low E string 10th fret, A string 11th, D string 12th then drop down a string or up a fret (whatever and repeat until you reach a note you can bend up to the root). This will give you a chromatic tri-tone type scale. Sounds crazy at first.

Or leave it like it is and continue refining it. I like it.

Oh ya, you had my head moving to the beat.

Thanks Matt, glad you liked it. And I agree with what you are saying about not needing to solo constantly. The lead track started as a 4 minute exercise in improvising, but I liked it so much I decided to go with it. And I'm definitely going to try your suggestion for expanding the chromatic licks, that is just what I'm looking for to 'heavy up' the usual blues licks I play, which can get a little too melodic for this style of music.
