i dont understand the point but i think the answer would be you would have to put both switches in the same position. what they used to do was put the 3 way in between settings to combine two pickups.

what you could do is to remove the 3 way and put in 3 mini toggles to accomplish what your teying to do . also you would be able to get setting you cant achieve with either the 3 way or 5 way . which is all on and neck and bridge at the same time without the middle pickup. ive seen kits for this on ebay..

amx, the 'kit' you are talking about is called a push-pull pot...

Though, what do you think - I'm quietly doubtful about smothering a guitar with lots of different settings. It kinda seems smart... till we try it. And then we discover what a guitarist really needs from his instrument is two or three truly excellent, useful tones and that's probably enough.

I have three settings on each of my Tele and Esquire, and five on my Strat. At my skill level that's all I can handle.

And Leo refused to even let us have more than three on a Strat!

Back in the day, those guys knew. :)

If Leo had replaced Robert Young on TV back then, the show would have been called "Leo Knows Best".
