Eh. For as much controversy as this thread has generated, its been fairly civil.

I'm really surprised this has blow up like this. Oh well, at least the topic is music related.

Again, the 'Disturbed' parody was posted and there weren't 4 pages of bickering about it. Is that because of who it was? Disturbed might not be your art or my art, but it's somebody's art. You really can't pick and choose if your position centers around the art form we call music.

I have been an avid and rabid Beach Boys fan since I first heard them and a lot of their songs are among my most loved-especially "Don't Worry Baby" which is one of my favourite songs of all time and one of the few that I can put on the CD player, hit "Repeat" and listen to it over and over for an hour or more.Their harmonies played a huge part in helping me conquer singing backup harmony.I love and respect the Beach Boys as much as anyone else ever could but I have to admit that I found that silly overdub to the video pretty funny and not in the least disrespectful. It didn't mock them or make them look foolish as any fool could see that the voices aren't them.I've seen that sort of thing done with other artists and I can picture Dennis Wilson and Miike Love nudging each other and having a good giggle over the overdub.

How in the hell this thread got so serious I'll never know!

That's one of the best 'Shred' videos I've seen. So funny.

Eric's is good too (particularly like the Sax)

I'm certainly not, I thought it was highly amusing.

There are plenty of 'shred' vids around, some containing some of my most admired artists and inspirations, both living and dead. Do I have a problem with them? Definitely not. Most of them come across to me as almost a fun silly tribute to the acts involved, if anything.

One even contains a close friend of mine, who found it utterly hilarious when he saw it - he was the one who emailed me the link in the first place!

I love the Beach Boys. Personally, I think the suggestion that a silly internet video takes something away from their fantastic legacy of music is actually far more derogatory towards them than the video itself. ;)

I can't help but think of the odds and probability of a full scale Brian Wilson/Paul McCartney collaboration in the near future. It's just gotta happen.

Which one will play bass?

Oh wait..even better..Metallica fires Kirk and Rob and hires Dave Mustain and David Ellefson for an album and tour. I got goosebumps just typing that out. They'd get their street cred back..if they did so.

And I still looove the Beach Boy sound big time! So no harm done.

hell I would pay to see that, just the potential for seeing a fist-fight break out on stage would be worth it.

The Ramones are my favorite band.

I think it's ok to find a sense of humor in them, even after death. I found quite a dew spoof videos and got a good laugh. Remember the lives they lived, the songs they wrote, and the things they made you feel. If someone wants to edit them and make it say something funny, it's by all means ok. It's keeping the memory alive.

As my brother once said at a funeral: "What if grandpa got up and started doing Thriller?"
