Picked up a gem today. An Epiphone Elite Les Paul. It is a 2003 model, MIJ, honeyburst with a flame maple top. This is one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned. They come stock with Gibson USA pickups and upgraded hardware. I feel like I stole it at $650 with the original case. Amazing sustain, tone and very playable. It weighs a ton, feels like >9lbs but I'll need to confirm that.

That's alot of guitar for six fifty. All mahogany(plus the maple cap) with Gibson U.S.A. pickups/hardware..it's a real Les Paul. They definately got the finish right as well. congrats!

Congrats on getting such a great guitar Kong,I'm positive that it will become one of your favourite "go-to" guitars. It's pretty timely that you mentioned Epi Les Pauls,my daughter's boyfriend is staying with us for a few days while he attends to some business in town.I was showing him my latest guitar and amp acquisitions when he picked up my Epi Trad Pro Les Paul and said it was way way better that the Gibson Traditional Pro that his buddy had bought recently. He said that the Gibson's neck wasn't as comfortable,it was so light that it felt delicate-must be one of the new "weight relief" ones-and the frets weren't finished properly plus it also sounded "thin".He tried out my Epi G-400 SG bodied 3 pup Les Paul Custom a couple of years ago and said that it was way better a guitar than his Gibson SG-he loved mine so much that my daughter bought him one like mine for Christmas and that's now his main guitar.

Gibson's quality seems to be slipping a lot lately. If they spent less time bringing out all these models with robotics and technical do-dads in them(which most likely will be prone to break-down),ultra expensive artist tributes and concentrated on QA on their existing models, maybe their quality and reputation would start to improve greatly.I have 6 Epis and each one is an exemplary guitar, the only way that I would consider buying a Gibson is if it was an acoustic(they're still well made for some reason)of if it was from the early 70s or earlier.
