Today I ordered a very cool guitar strap from Jodi Head,a NYC artisan who turns out some of the coolest straps and other guitar accessories that I've ever seen. The prices range from about $45 to over $3,000 and all of them are of the highest quality and most are made of very heavy leather.I ordered a dragon motif 2.5" X 55" strap embroidered on electric blue silk and that is expertly sewn onto very heavy leather. This particular strap is only $60 which I think is quite reasonable considering the design and construction of it. You can check them out here: http://www.jodihead.com/ they even have remakes of vintage straps used by Jimi Hendrix,Jimmy Page,John Lennon and others from the 60s.

Jodi's straps are used by a bunch of rock and blues stars, including Doyle Bramhall II, Sheryl Crow, Richie Sambora, Dickey Betts and Buddy Guy.

Vox also still puts out the John Lennon strap.

Vox does indeed make a strap that is a remake of the one that he used on his Rickenbackers mostly. Over the years he used a lot of these geometric patterened straps and she must have taken that strap from the pattern that she saw in a concert pic etc. So far I've looked for a suitable close-up in several of my Beatle related books, including Andy Babiuk's "Beatles Gear" but it's difficult in most cases to get a good idea of what the straps look like.I'll keep looking because I'm curious now.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing! I'm in need of a couple new straps, and I may have just found them!

Jodi's are interesting, but not my taste. To me, the strap is a tool, I can't get into all the embellishment.

Personally, I'm a fan of Italia Straps - http://www.italiastraps.com/ .

Italian Harness Leather, expertly crafted and sewn. The quality is amazing !!!

I bought mine when they had a 2-for-1 deal (which they frequently have), one for my Strat and one for my Tele. Bar none, the nicest straps I have ever seen.

I bought a suede strap from Perri - http://perris.ca/store/ for my Heritage H-535 and am very happy with it as well. But it's not quite the quality of the Italia (though very close), and was a few bucks more expensive due to Italia's 2-for-1 deal.

cheers!

Ditto on Italia. I've used Italia exclusively for 7 or 8 years with no regrets. There are many times I look at them and still marvel at the quality.

Never tried one of Jodi's straps, but bass straps need to be durable, comfortable and stable. Head mostly makes skinny guitar straps but does make an all leather 3 inch strap similar to an Italia's 4 inch wide one, but I wonder if the leather is equal to that soft garment quality leather Italia uses. Head offers two colors only in that strap.

If you want to make a "fashion statement" or you are an egomaniac that needs your name on your strap like Porter Wagoner then the Jodi Head straps might be a good source.

I'll try these as well, but I have a couple of these straps made from recycled set belts apparently, great quality and colours> http://www.couchguitarstraps.com/seat-belt-straps-c-4.html

I still have several guitar straps that I used in the 70s and one of them I actually bought out of money that I got from one of my first gigs when I was a struggling emerging guitarist in 1969 at the tender age of 15.I even have the original leather Fender strap that came in the case with my '65 Mustang and it's in near mint condition. The leather on all of these straps is so worn that it's risky to use them and the fabric is starting to come away from the leather backing on most of them due to the sewing threads breaking and unravelling.I imagine that if I took them to a reputable shoe repair shop or harness repair shop I could get the leather replaced and fabric resewn. These straps should look really funky when it they get repaired.

So far lots of really cool straps in this thread! When I get some more money together I really need to invest in a nice one. $20 straps aren't so great when you have to stand up with them for 4 hours on a gig.

My friend out in the western US made me this one:

...and is now working on another custom order for me. This is not his regular job, but he is a skilled craftsman.
