I'd have my doubts about those pistol style cable ends and the longevity of a $5 cable. You can get high quality cables such as Road Hog for around $20 and they are almost bullet proof.I use all Road Hog cables for instruments and as amp cables and they have stood up to gigging, jamming, being tread on stomped on pulled and tugged for over 20 years and are still as good as new.A moderate to high initial investment in good cables -and gear in general-will be less costly in the long run than having to buy low budget flimsy junk every few weeks or months.

well, like i said- i wouldnt go seek these out - i just thought for five bucks they would've been worth checking out. I've had my ProCo cables for a long time and they've never failed me. I am thinking about getting some vox coil cables.... maybe in blue.

I only use genuine Fender cables because that's the little known secret of great tone. The tone is "in" the cable. People waste so much money on pickups and new guitars and new amps and stomp boxes of all colours when all they really need is a genuine Fender cable!!

I'm dead serious!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Oh, that must be why the 6" patch cables fender makes cost 20 bucks a piece. jeeez. I'll stick to my 2.99 staggs, thanks. I'll admit I haven't done a whole lot of playing around with cables and what difference they really make, but i've got my sound where I want it... the only time I have doubts about anything I have at home is when I go play a vintage fender amp... and it's so crystal clear it makes me want to puke. someday.....someday....

I do use some old and quite reliable Fender Electro-Volt cables for home practice/rehearsal but use M.I.T. Ripcord Bass cables for performance/recording. I also own Monster Bass and Elixir instrument cables but really don't use them much. The Elixir is a good low capacitance cable but it is really stiff, thick and tends to retain the shape of how it was wound for storage. The Monster is also really stiff.

Cheap instrument cables are usually high capacitance cables and even some of the pricey ones are higher capacitance than you'd think. Monster for example makes cables of varying capacitance and labels them for different applications. Monster Bass/Jazz/Acoustic cables all have low capacitance readings and Monster Rock Guitar has a higher capacitance.

Cheap Asian made cables can have connectors that are slightly smaller or larger in diameter than say a standard Switchcraft, G&H, Amphenol or Neutrik plug. These slightly off size Asian connectors can be trouble. I would not even consider the pistol plugs in the link posted or any fabric covered instrument cable for that matter regardless of what plugs are on it.

Most of the curly cord style cables are very high capacitance as a rule. The higher the capacitance the more impact there is on the tone. However some people prefer the mid range boost with the high frequency and low frequency roll-off inherent in high capacitance cables. From the mid 1960's to nearly 1980 high capacitance curly cords were used extensively live.

High capacitance guitar cables were so common in the 60's through early 80's that in some cases a high capacitance cable is part of the formula to recreating some classic lead guitar tones from those days. If you are trying to get a live Hendrix or Townshend 60's/early 70's tone for example you will find it easier with a high capacitance cable and almost impossible with a modern low capacitance cable.
