I start out slowly strumming an open G chord and let it ring...

E:-------------3----------------
B:-----------0------------------
G:---------0--------------------
D:-------0----------------------
A:-----2------------------------
E:---3--------------------------

Then I play a sliding G major scale going up the neck like this:

E:------------------------------------------------10--12--12s15----
B:---------------------------------8--10--10s12--------------------
G:---------------------------7--9------------------------------------
D:----------------5--7--7s9-----------------------------------------
A:----------5--7-----------------------------------------------------
E:---3--5s7----------------------------------------------------------

I usually start out with "Spanish Castle Magic" by Jimi and usually follow that with Jimi's "Angel".Since I usually play one of my Strats,Spanish Castle Magic is the quintessential song for making sure that your tone is just right, when I can nail the tone of that song I know that I have all my EQ etc. set up right.I play Angel because it calls for quite a bit of finger stretching and really gets the old mitts limbered up.

I'll play an open G chord, then an open E and then an open D to check my state of tune. Usually in that order. G and E because they involve all six strings and D because it seems to more readily expose any tiny tuning issues there might still be left with the G and B strings after doing the G and E chords. I hate it if the G and B strings aren't spot on. The other strings can all be a few cents out without totally grating on my nerves but those pesky G and B strings drive me batty if they're not bang on.

Same here!

Mountain - "Never in My Life"

I like playing it to warm up with, and also to try out a bass in a shop. The riff moves well, and I'm very in tune with it's sound.

I play Lenny by SRV every time, as my signature suggests.
