That was a real warrior! Kudos to the Meridian boys for creating a classic! I enjoy running across them now and then. Never owned one, but a real serious instrument!

I'm pretty much in the same camp with you, but prefer the single coil ones. It takes are real strong player to rock a 54 P-bass, a '51 Reissue or a '68 Telecaster Bass. I think the big fat necks actually add a lot to the tone as well.

In the tone department I'm more of a single coil guy. I have split coil P-basses and there is just something more magical or even mystical about those first generation single coil P-Basses. That magic is a raw brute force tone that sits way up in the mix.

I love the look of a Jazz and enjoy hearing people play them, but I just never felt as personally connected to a single coil Jazz Bass as I do to a single coil P-Bass. I keep buying Jazzes every so often, but rarely keep one long.

It is sad that the 51 RI P-Bass got dropped from the line. That one and the Sting are my favorite Fender Japan instruments ever. That's saying a lot because there have been some really awesome Fender Japan basses.

I would like to play one of these now that they are part of the Fender musical instrument family Image

Of course, I neglected to mention my favoritest bass, the Fender Bass VI!

The unholy union of a Strat, a bass and a Jaguar... 8)

I just sold my 51RI P to a fellow area bassist after 7 years. It just wasn't cutting with the direction my band is headed in. I suppose I could have torn out the pup and put in the 1/4lb and strung it with rounds but it seemed like such a shame. 6 year old flats made it sounds like heaven. I miss it. Bad. Luckily the bassist I sold it to in order to get my Antigua was a top notch local and our old bands used to gig together regularly. He's a much better bassist then I am so I know she's in good hands. He also said that if he ever decides to part with her that he'd give me first crack. She still haunts me. Pics and recordings are all I have left now. :(

Some day I'll get her back.

For me it is my Jazz. I so love that bass. A close second is my 92 P-Bass. I modded that with the old Fender Silver lace Sensor pups and a Bad $@! II bridge. A really nice thumper!!
ABS :D

Eric, I had a Geddy Lee Jazz for a while and it had that Badass bridge and I just loved that bridge to pieces. A real quality piece of solid gear, that bridge.

Bas $@! bridges are nice, I think. That's one mod I've used in the past with excellent results.

I'm a fan of my T-40, too, along with my very vintage Tele bass.

Those T-40s are one heavy bass, but it separates the men from the boys, I guess. There's gotta be three pounds of hardware on that thing!

Since I have pretty small hands,I need a small, thin necked bass.My Vox Astro IV model V 273 violin bass has a very thin neck that is very comfortable for me.Hofner basses are also well suited to my hands.I find the Jazz Bass and Mustang Bass necks very comfortable too but if I were to buy another bass,I'd definitely go for the Fender Jaguar Bass because it has the greatest tonal variations of any bass on the market plus it has the lovely thin Jazz Bass neck.

My Ibanez SR600 is one of the best basses I have played. Never played an Alembic though. Might not ever be able to afford one either. I like the sound of Fender, but playing them has been hit and miss for me. One day I'll find one I like and can afford.

Fender Jazz. I also have an Aria Cardinal series, which I really like.

I had an SR600 for a while, I think anyway. It was definietly S?600 but the R doesn't seem to ring a bell. I thought it was maybe SD or SG. Those Ibanez basses have wonderful necks. Didn't like the pickups though.

If I played bass... it would have to be a Fender Geddy Lee sig Jazz bass!
