Later this year I either want to get a new MIM Tele or a used MIA Jazz Bass. Which one do you guys think I should get? I can't decide! :x

Try not to have bias towards the MIA!!!

I guess it depends on which instrument you play more and more importantly which instrument you feel is your primary instrument. That is, are you a guitarist who also plays the bass or are you a bassist who also plays guitar? Until recently I was a guitarist who played bass but that is in the process of shifting. The only new gear I have purchased in almost a year is bass related.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Well that's the thing, I don't know what I am yet! I just play what's around

The guitar. You have a nice bass. Go the logical path and vet a nice guitar.

I guess you're right. I need an upgrade in guitar terms and my bass is pretty good and feels like it will last me longer than the Epiphone.

In my experience if you're decent bassist you'll have more options as far as finding bands to play with. If you're a decent guitarist you'll still have opportunities to play but you may not be able to pick and choose as much. There are lots of decent guitarist but a good bassist is a rarer commodity. You don't really get to pick and choose as a guitarist unless you're really good. Where I live there are lots of classified ads from bands looking for a good bassist and also lots of guitarists looking for bands to play with. I don't know if I've ever seen an ad from a bassist looking for a band. Food for thought.

I'm inclined to go with SK's advise for now until you know which one you are. A good guitar will help your choices be based on equal footing if you already have a nice bass.

Unless you've discovered something terribly wrong with your Thunderbird (even if it's just too hard for you to play due to it's size or scale), you've got a dang good bass guitar...I say go for a good guitar, that way you'll have a good 'un of each.

Then, if you hear the call for a guitarist, you can do that or if (more likely) you get the call for a bassist, you can do that, too.

A good bassist can always find (or form) a band. The same cannot be said about a good guitarist.
