hey i figured out how to use my sister's video camera and i just got a dove (i'm really excited!!!). so i finally decided to get a youtube account. i posted a few videos and i wanted to know if you guys would give me some feedback. i'm fourteen, been playing about 7 months, am completely self-taught. I don't know and other guitarists or muscians so i really haven't been able to get any feedback.

these really aren't that great of videos because i was so nervous and they really aren't hard songs to play but i figured i'd give it a shot anyway. at the very least you get to see a nice guitar. i'll try to post some better ones later. make sure you read the video info for more information.

and be honest, i can take it!

thanks. here are the links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrJL4uxv-gg

thanks for your time!!

The first one was shot way to close up. You couldn't see anything. I heard what sounded like a lot of little re-starts here and there. But you get points for going through the trouble and posting it :)

The second was much better. Better shot, the guitar tone sound pretty good on it as well. And, I liked what you were playing. I'd say you're pretty damn good for playing 7 months - far better than I remember being at that stage. So, keep playing :)

If you're going to start posting stuff, can I give you some advice (as a creative team lead for an ad agency)...

- Try different angles with the camera too. As in, a little low and to your right, so the camera looks up the fretboard, but can still see both hands good, etc. Or, a little higher and to the left, like someone standing next to you and watching you play.
- Once you get into videos, then you should want to make them look good too, otherwise just put up an MP3 someplace. Think of the camera like it's a buddy there hanging out with you, and place it accordingly. Don't think of it as just some electronic device to plop in front of you to record on.
- Try to make the video interesting, as in shooting it at night with some strange light on (lava lamp, etc). Put your personality into it, like a sentence or two about what you're playing, or why you're playing it, etc.
- Try all different locations: your room, the living room, the yard, the park, on vacation somewhere, the music store "testing out" your new song on some cool guitar, etc.
- These should help make all your videos help you get your music out better, since they'll not only be great music, but great to look at too. Which in turn will give you more experience, more comfort making these, and more hits on youtube.

Or not, just some random thoughts. Nice job in any case...

thanks for the advice. i had just learned the first one and thought it was fun. didn't notice all of the mistakes until i watched it after it was downloaded :D

i normally don't make quite so many mistakes though - i was nervous.

i'm a camera newbie so i didn't even think about camera positions

Dude, you're 14 and it's your first guitar videos on youtube, I wouldn't even consider them "mistakes". It's fine, and leave it up. Just add more to them, and try all different kinds of things.

Nice job though on the second one, for your playing level.
