Mexican Fenders are the real thing too. Just cheaper.

I never picked up one I could fault for sound or build. I'm far from an expert, but given there's a huge price difference, I think you should be able to see it and hear it.

Some can, some can't, some pay more, some less.

i've played them:)...they are very good something just seemed"missing"if you know what i mean cant quite put the trigger on what it is but something feels a tad off...however either that or the modern player are in my budget...just wanted a heads up view on if people have played the two...and what would be a better buy within that price range...i kinda know the answer, but am just looking for others feedback to confirm it....thanks for the response

I can only compare Mex and US - that's what I've tried.

Given the pricing of the moderns, it suggests they're Mex too.

Are you interested in the Tele plus or the thinline W/p90's? the biggest factor to look at when comparing either of these to the standard is that the different pickups and the chambered body of the thinline will be the greatest difference in sound, so it largely depends on what kind of music you're into. I personally would grab one of the MP's just to be different and you don't know how easy they'll be to find in the future if they cease production on them but you'll always be able to find a standard. I love both of the MP Telecaster creations the plus is like the equivelant of the HSS strat (great for hard-rock) and I always wondered why they didn't offer one Til Now! And I love P90's and semi-hollow telecasters so that would be interesting to try one out and you get 4 controls on those. The options for finishes are awesome too. Just know whatever you end up with is still going to be an awesome Fender creation. But if you really like the conventional telecaster and you feel short-changed on the quality I'd encourage you to be strong and sae up for an American, get one used in the $450-650 price range, the deals are out there.

I'll throw another curve....check out the lite ash telecaster at Alto Music for $349.99. Got mine and love it (after some set up, of course). It comes with Duncan pick ups that'll do anything you ask of them. It's not not heavy, not to light! I out a new set of Fender bullets (lights) on it and it is one of the best playing electrics I've ever had. It's made in Indonisia, but after set up, plays as good, maybe alittle better then my '83 MIA Tele. Just an idea.

My Missus gave me a MIM Tele-my first,finally- for Christmas a few years ago and it sounds just incredible no matter which amp that I put it through.I recently played it through my AC-15 and through the Top Boost channel, it could break glass with its razor sharp treble tones when the bridge pup is engaged but if you roll back the tone pot to about 6 and engage either both or just the neck pup,it can produce some of the warmest dulcet tones you'd ever hear.MIM Teles could sell for double the price that they are now and still be a bargain.

I've played and own both the MIM Telecasters and the Modern Player with the bridge humbucker. I cannot find fault with anything regarding fit and finish of either guitar, but I enjoy the humbucker, which is the primary difference between the two. The MP is made in China, but they know what they are doing - they've been cloning American guitars for a long time.

I bought the Modern Player brand new and in the box when they were first released, but I have purchased most of my MIM Teles and Strats second-hand, better bang for the buck. I don't think you can go wrong either way, it's just your budget and which features you end up wanting that should make your decision for you.

That guitar looks spectacular my friend. Someday I want to own the thinline one in that color but maybe slap on a rosewood neck. :)

I think the China stuff is very good, except some of the models have cheaper tuners(that do work, but..) and frets that wear fast. Just about all the MIC stuff I"ve seen has been finished, assembled, and routed better than the current MIM basses and guitars. They sound great too.

Yep, you might not get what you pay for when you buy a MIM Fender, you might get more. :)

I love my MIM Tele !

It was given to me, and I once considered it somewhat of a throwaway (shows what I knew), now I cherish it !

I do not like the 'new' Tele w/ Belly Cut... just seems wrong... like White Walls on a Ferrari.

Not familiar with the asian models.

cheers!
