Here's a heads up for any Forum Members who I exchange emails with to ignore any emails that are supposedly from me.I received an email today which looked like it was from a company that I deal with but when I opened it,I opened Pandora's Box or a computer Trojan Horse. This virus seems to have sent emails that are spam to everyone in my address book, now I have to scramble before it does any major damage.I have contacted Yahoo and told them that my account has been compromised and have changed my password to one that's very secure.I had all kinds of firewalls and safeguards that were set up by an IT specialist and used by one of our largest privately owned companies in the province but it failed because the email looked so legitimate and I opened it.It only goes to show that no matter how careful you are that there is always someone who will be relentless in their search to gain access to other people's accounts.

Ouch. Moral of the story is don't run any executable attachments, even if they're from someone you think you know!

This happened to my Dad a few days ago on Yahoo. It would be cool if servers had an online sandbox to open suspicious emails in. Or all email opened in a sandbox environment until confirmed safe. There you go Google, make it happen. I think you can run your browser/email client (does anyone still use email clients?) in a sandbox yourself, but it would be a nice feature to have on the server so you don't have to install or worry about one.

I'm surprised you got a virus attachment via Yahoo, every web-based email service I can think of automatically scans any attachments before they are downloaded.

I often get e-mail messages from "people I know". if all that's in the message is a link... in the trash it goes. My bride (of 30 years now) made the mistake once, years ago, never again.

I think they (bad guys) hacked a bunch of passwords of user accounts and went from there. I'm not sure if he even opened anything. My Dad just deleted all emails and changed his password.

It's good, but also a pain. If you want to send any exe, bat, or cmd files you have to either leave off the extension or .7z it. I think you can rar it on some. But, if your giving support to most users when they have to rename something or use a third party program to unzip it, they freak out.

I got your email, but from being hacked myself, I knew not to click on the link.

It happens to the best of us.
