I just found out that yesterday we lost one of our most beloved Canadian entertainers-Stompin' Tom Connors.Famous for carrying a 2 X 2 square of 3/4" plywood to every gig so that his perpetual stomping accompaniment to his songs wouldn't marr the stage floors Tom's downhome and folksy style endeared him to all Canadians.Despite writing the most simply basic of 3 chord songs his lyrics were often self-effacing and always humourous, he never took himself seriously for one minute. His song "The Good Old Hockey Game" has become a staple at Canadian hockey games from coast to coast and his songs such as "Bud The Spud From PEI" and "The Coal Boat Song" have become hits all over Canada and especially on the East Coast where he hails from. All of the Atlantic provinces, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador absolutely loved him and claimed him as their own.I imagine that even Alvin Lee will be stompin' along with Tom up in Heaven tonight. Goodbye and God Bless You Tom for being Canada's own homegrown hero.

He was to it and at it and at it and to it.

He's got his final attitude tuned in.

RIP Tom.

A proud Canadian in every sense of the word, he was unique. I remember seeing him play many times in the McGillis Hotel in Peterborough Ontario. I always knew when he was in town as he would have his pickup parked in the parking lot beside the hotel with Stompin' Tom Connors written across the camper top in the back. Always a good show and I had the pleasure of sharing many a beer with him, long ago.
sic transit gloria....RIP Tom

Good-bye and good road Tom, don't worry they have Labatt's 50 and Export A's in heaven (at least that's the rumour) We'll all be missing you and your true blue Canadian attitude, God bless and safe journey :(

He was the poet laureate of the proliteriat. Sort of a Canadian version of Woodie Guthrie. A very humble guy who never forgot where he came from, and that his fans were the lifeblood of his success.

A very funny guy, and very courteous, which are rare attributes in star performers today. He also put a lot of his money into ventures to help up and coming Canadian musicians. He'll be missed. :(
