So far my strat has been in the shop for two days, and I don't get it back till Monday. Aaah the woes of only having one guitar. I seriously think that I will be in the mad house if I continue without my guitar until monday. Anyone else ever had to deal without having there guitar for any period of time?

Oh yeah, it sucks. That's why it's good to have at least a cheapo backup. Why not pick up a used MIM for $150? Then next time you'll still be able to get your guitar fix.

I've had guitars at a shop for repair, up to 3 weeks........but then.....I have more than one guitar. Perhaps you should invest in an inexpensive guitar to get you through withdrawals, such as this....

Yeah, even the $100-ish Epi or Mitchell acoustics from Guitar Center are nice extras to have - for times like this, for camping or bonfires, etc, or just something different to play.

Or, get something else, like a set of $60 bongo drums, a cheaper keyboard or some other musical thing to not only expand your skills, but to change things up a bit.

Sometime on vacation, I'll go without a guitar for a week or more at a time. I find that when I do get back, my mind is fresher, and any musical ruts I was in are gone. I'll also try to listen to good music in styles that I don't listen to often to really listen and pick "something" from it that I want to use - the melody, the phrasing, the beat or rhythm, or something.

Grab a book, or visit a website on music theory, or something else you can do with the need for a guitar in your hands.

Learn how to play a mean blues harmonica.

Oh yeah.........I just put a guitar in the shop for a friend of mine that lives in the middle of nowhere, and has no guitar tech available to him. Anyway.........it should take two to three weeks to get his guitar back. He knew this, so he bought himself a $200 electric to play till I can get the guitar back to him. He usually practices about two hours a day. He's so addicted, that he plans other things in the day, to allow him to get his two hours of practice in. So........moral of the story.....have an inexpensive backup.

Ah gotcha

After my guitar had been in for a couple hours the thought seriously crossed my mind of going out and getting a cheap backup, however I wouldn't let myself, because at the moment I am trying to save up for a particular Schecter.

Try Wish You Were Here and Mother by Pink Floyd, both progressions are simple and similar so that might be a good start
IMO, a beginner playing WYWH is way more interesting than a beginner playing Wonder Wall/Wonderwall or Smoke on the Water, hope you get my point
