I only found out about an hour ago and it really came as a complete shock because there hadn't been anything in the news lately about him being in deteriorating health or anything. The first time I heard a recording of him playing I thought that someone had upped the speed on the turntable, nobody could ever play that fast-but Alvin could. I had to write a personal tribute to him on his website because he was another guitarist who amazed and inspired me,he was one of the very few extraordinary musicians that even other greats hold in the highest esteem.Their Space In Time album was a classic the day it was released because it contained such brilliant playing and also with songs like "I'd Love To Change The World" and "One Of These Days" it also contained pretty deep messages.I went on Youtube a while back and looked up 10 years after to watch a video of "I'd Love To Change The World" and was disgusted to see that the lead guitarist wasn't Alvin, without Alvin there never could be a Ten Years After-he was the group and I can't see why people would pay to see them without Alvin playing.A few days ago we lost another rock icon-Reg Presley-and now we have lost one of the true guitar greats not only of the rock era but of all time.Alvin Lee was shredding before shredding ever became a word, plus he threw his whole heart and soul into it.God Bless you Alvin and thankyou for giving us such brilliant music and for inspiring millions of young guitarists to play better.

RIP Alvin. Ten Years After's performance at Woodstock set a standard. I guess you really are now Going Home.

BTW, have you seen that most of the YouTube and other videos of Alvin and Ten Years After at Woodstock have been taken down...

On YouTube, the following is written:

This video contains content from MC for Warner Bros. and Warner Chappell, one or more of whom have blocked it on copyright grounds.

No doubt WB wants to put out a commemerative DVD...

Here's a couple links:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGV-CBhnC1w - a nice compilation from NPR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ5qFu9I4sw -Still working link from Woodstock

cheers!

DAMN.. it seems like every other day I pop into a forum and another of the greats has passed on. RIP Alvin Lee and thanks for inspiring me so many years ago to learning how to play better. You will be sorely missed. Prayers to his family and friends. :(

Hadn't heard about this until now. Grim news indeed. I downloaded the song "I'd Love to Change the World" just a couple of weeks ago because my vinyl is in storage and I wanted to hear his guitar work again.

Aside from losing a great guitarist, Lee's passing has created additional buzz over on the Heritage Owners Forum.

People are scrambling to find a Heritage Alvin Lee Signature H-535 (fewer than 100 made).

Those who already have them are seeing their value skyrocket. Though this may be temporary, due to their rareness, it's not likely.

Here's a clip of Alvin Lee playing his ...
