I am really enjoying the ergonomics, comfort, light weight and clarity over my Gibsons. I could see buying more strats and telecasters and maybe another Gibson SG, but my one Les Paul Standard could be enough for me and my back and shoulder. LOL.

I really enjoy humbuckers in a Fender, because I get huge tones, almost bigger than a Gibson in tone because you have more highs and the longer scale length adds to clarity.

Richied, have you ever tried a Strat with Lace Sensors? Fender used these in their upscale guitars in the late 80's through early 90's.

Do they still have the thin plinky single coil tone? :)

Do they? I could never bond or wrap my head around how single coil pickups feel or sound, that is the same thing said by Chris Shiflett when designing his tele with two humbuckers. I wasn't trying to offend you man, that is just how single coil pickups sound to my ears. Many people don't like humbuckers or Gibsons cause they find them muddy or too thick. That is fine, different strokes for different folks. :)

It is funny because for years, all I wanted was a Les Paul. But with maturity, I realize I like the variety a Fender can offer, even more so than my PRS! I take back what I said about single coils. I do like singles for clean and light gain, and it is nice having them on a guitar for much variety. Even a humbucker in a strat neck position or tele sounds more clear and bigger than what I get from my Gibsons. I am really starting to appreciate Fenders and what a strat can cover - anything!

I just find the early Highway strats to be amazing!

I read only the title of the thread, nothing more.

Fender rules.

That is all.

Fender is great but I do have friends who swear, once you play enough of the high end PRS models, you will never pick up another Fender again. LOL.

So guys, now I have a 2012 American Standard Tele and 2013 American Standard Strat, both of which I love. Both have maple boards.

My strat has all stock pickups. The bridge pickup is very vintage and warm. Does everything well except heavy tight music.

This summer I am saving to buy another 2013 American Standard strat HSS, but with a Fender Atomic humbucker and two Fender Hot noiseless single coil pickups. Maybe Duncans, like the JB and singles.

I find myself playing my SG more than my strats now.

Hi Richedie.
Reading your post and gear and experience,
I would say you are armed to the teeth! 8)

Now, you emphasize on being keen about an American made Strat,
your preference for a PRS-type neck and specialty pickups plus
a hard tail...
Sounds to me like you are a candidate for a Custom Shop Strat
of your own design. :D
Picture the mahogany, hard tail, choice pickups, the Custom Shop´s
amazing variety of neck specifications and your dream radius and frets...
You have doled out this kind of money before, and after a few month´s
waiting time, Bang, it´s the RicheDie signature Fender man.

Page around to the Custom Shop section, the neck info alone will get your
full interest.
It´s without question the best money I ever spent. 8)
Now I dream about a Mesa amp like yours! Do tell please.

Cheers,
Mike "Foot Lover" (after a recent and infamous post! :P ).

RichieDie? Yikes. It is RichEdie - me and my wife Edythe.

Nah, I love my Amer St strat HSS!!! I am getting another with a rosewood board and popping in an Atomic.

Only wish more strats came with a 12" radius board.

Hi Richedie,I'm puzzled by the thin and plinky description of the Fender single coils. I have 4 Strats of different models and vintages but I can't say that the tone of any of them is thin or (I think that I get what you mean by "plinky").Maybe where you are so used to setting the EQ on your amps to suit humbucker equipped guitars, using the same settings or close to it will definitely end up with a very thin and "plinky" tone from a single coil guitar.Since a h-b equipped guitar has much more output and robust tone than a single coil guitar, when you plug in a tele,Strat etc. you are most definitely going to get a sound that's not at all satisfactory.

I can guarantee that if you took some time to sit down with a clean slate, with all your tone controls set at 12 o'clock and went on from there, you would eventually get a great full and even heavy tone from your Strat and Tele. All you have to do is listen to Jimi's "Spanish Castle Magic" to get an idea of how heavy and full a Strat can sound.By the same token, give a listen to Larry Gatton or Roy Buchanan and you'll hear it loud and clear how full and gut wrenchingly heavy a Tele can sound.Justgive what I said an honest tryout and I'm sure that your opinion of the tones would change.Let us know after you try it out.Cheers.

I am in love with the tone of the fat 50s and they sound noiseless to me! They sounded FAT at rehearsal.

Great minds think alike...of maybe we're both equally insane, LOL...

If you set your amp's EQ up with a Les Paul in mind, you might be dissatisfied when you plug in a Tele or Strat with single coils.

As for "Thin"? Er, maybe "Thinner," but not "Thin" by any means.

Plinky? Only if you're strumming through a thin-sounding clean amp with a thin plectrum.

Finally, I have played no less than thirty different Paul Reed Smith guitars, ranging from the lower-end SE models up to a customized early "Dragon" that belonged to/was built by Paul himself (which was a long story in itself which will not be told right now)...and I am still a Fender player.

Nothing against PRS (the man, the instruments or the players), but they just don't "do it" for me. I love to listen to certain PRS players (David Grissom is in my personal "Top Ten" of greatest players ever in the history of ever), but the instruments themselves are like certain women--they're pretty, they're well-built, but they just don't turn my key.
