Hi all, my recent gas attack landed me a new friend:

Image
She's an early Victoria 45410, their build of the 5F6A Fender Bassman. Predates their lacquered tweed cabinets and Jensen P10R speakers.

Inside:

Serial #204 indicates it's their 4th ever 5F6A build. She came with NOS RCA 12AX7s in V1 and V2, a NOS GE GZ34 in the recifitier, and Russian Tung-Sols (1 12AX7, 2 5881). I am going to try a 12AY7 in V1 when I get the opportunity, at Bills recommendation.

Overall I am very pleased that I took the chance on this amp. Normally it's a really stupid idea to buy gear without having tried it prior (really - DON'T do it!), but I took an educated guess knowing what I wanted, and the gents in the Amps section were happy to help me with my decision. My strat sounds very nice going straight into it, and that's really all I wanted. I was happy to find that the volume around '3' isn't ludicrously loud, but enough to tell that when I have a chance to really crank her around '6', it is going to be good. 8)

Anyway, I just wanted to share. Keep on rocking y'all!

Congrats ! Great ! And I'm sure Bill really knows his stuff there. I read most of his 5F6A build-thread , so you can have confidence on that . Really impressive looks !

I spent a good part of the night checking out these amps. This one is very nice and would seem to be well worth the money. This guy actually had new runs of no longer in production resistors and capacitors made just so he could make these amps. You have a real collectors item now, IMO.

Thanks very much all! Today in a fit of desperation to try playing the amp driven, I threw an old SD-1 in front her set with low drive and the volume just below unity. With the amp just below '4', I was uproarously happy with what I could achieve playing with just the strats volume knob! Some solid affirmation that Leo knew what the heck he was doing.

Congrats on the new amp Toronado, there are some amps that you can buy with the confidence that they'll be great without even trying them out such as Dumbles,Trainwreck,Marshall,Vox and of course Victoria amps.Although I have never used one I've read enough product reviews in guitar publications and seen enough glowing owner endorsements,to know that they are exemplary amps. The fact that it's based on one of the most iconic amps made, pretty well assures you that it's going to be something special anyway.
