I've got a Strat that I'm planning on painting Lake Placid Blue, and after doing some investigating, I'm finding that this color can vary grealty.

You can find really old Fender instruments in LPB that look anywhere from a deep metalic blue to a green color (yellowing clear coat), to a metalic blue that look a little lighter with a silver hue to it.

For modern instruments, Frender LPB is usually this lighter silvery blue.

For those of you out there who own instruments with this color, please post some photos.

Also I've looking at ReRanch as source for my paint. Any advice of where get good paint and steps to painti would be helpful.

Here you go......

At the top, a "Premium Vintage" CIJ '65 Strat re-issue. The finish on this guitar is a close match to the Duco paint chip as found in the '65 custom color paint chart.

Below, a MIM standard Jazz Bass reconfigured to resemble a '66 model. This instrument was refinished before I bought it but I do not know the specifics of the paint or how it was applied.

Finally, a MIJ Fender Strat 12-string. The advertised color is Lake Placid Blue though it's substantially brighter than the common perception of this shade.

Thanks, it's one of my favorites . . . and the only LPB I have.

This has become my favorite color for strats -- I'm very tempted to pick up a Lake Placid Blue MIM strat in the not-too-distant future.
