I voted for Clapton well because my roots lie with The Beatles, Cream and the blues but as for John Frusciante, he is the guitarist I aspire to be like but as for "favorite" guitarist, it changes everyday just like when somebody asks who my favorite band is one day I'll say The Beatles and the next I may say As I Lay Dying or Bring Me The Horizon because I listen to a lot of different music

I said Carlos Santana, just for his style. Its just so...different, not like other styles and it seems to just come from his soul rather than to just blend with the music. :)

I also have to agree that there should be a "Other" category for this poll. Although ALL these guitarist are phenominal players, someone might not agree with the list members and want to submit their own "Best Guitarist of all time".

My vote goes to Frusciante as well. If you completely ignore the fact that he is my favorite guitar player and the biggest influence on my playing, he is also the most humble guitar player ever and is still one of the best. Isn't that really what music is about? Not a bunch of flashy guys (with the exception of Hendrix and Clapton) but being a great player, knowing what music really is, and being totally modest about it?

Purely subjective topic, I will go for someone else I once heard live and he blew me away. Mainly because he was so different to anyone I had heard previously, his name Mick Abrahms, he had just left Jethro Tull and had put this blues/jazz/rock band together called Blodwyn Pig.
This was in 1970 and I heard this band in a small cellar club in Manchester called the Magic Village and what a band. Just a four piece, Ron Berg on drums, Andy Pyle on bass and an amazing sax player by the name of Jack Lancaster who at times played two simultaneously. In fact he was a multi-musician, an electric violin was in his hands occasionally and then of course, Mick Abrahms with his SG laying down some very nifty jazz guitar riffs.
They were powerful, they were hot.........man they were good.

I said Hendrix of the people on this list but I am suprised that one name is not on there and that is Duane Allman because he would be number two for sure or even tied for number one.

I voted for MYSELF, cause it says Hendrix on there, and my name has a Hendrix in it (forum name, not my real one). But seriously, i chose Hendrix (big surprise), and clatpon in second, because i think that hendrix was by far the most creative and innovative guitarist, and that's why so many good guitarists exist, because now everything they do is acclaimed, but if it wasn't for him, it would be shunned by the 'purists'. Vaughan is awesome, and i can't believe he's not on there. Page is versatile as well.

Look: feedback, divebombs, stage tricks, instrument lighting, multiple effects, and possibly the GREATEST ambassador for the stratocaster and marshall full stack. When i think of or see a strat, i imagine it in Hendrix's hands. I don't know of anybody before him that is so well known and is automatically connected with a strat. An exception being Buddy Holly, or what's that dude's name... Hank Marvin. If i ask a random guitar, who do you think he/she will know more about?
DOne rambling now... plus he was humble, nice, and open to other musicians and ideas.

Is anyone else surprised that Mike McCready made this list? I enjoy his work but it just seems odd to have him up there with so many others missing.
