Audacity is a good learning program and it's free.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

..and just because it's free, doesn't mean you can't learn a lot from it.

I believe the GT unit has a USB out.

Hi permas, and welcome to the forum.

Connecting your guitar and GT-100 to your computer does not require any software. Simply plug your guitar into the INPUT jack of your GT-100 and use a USB cable to connect your GT-100 to your computer.

For recording you can use Audacity, as Miami Mike suggested. It's simple to use and it's free. I'm not certain but doesn't the GT-100 come with some sort of recording or sequencing software? I have his smaller cousin, the ME-25, and it ships with Sonar LE. As for the songs on your media player, I'm not sure how you intend to proceed but you can connect your player directly to your GT-100.

    Cheers!

Do you mean Windows Media Player, or an 'iPod' type device?

You're right, Mike. It's really surprising but the GT-100 doesn't come bundled with any sequencing or recording software.

To the OP, if you would let us know what you plan on doing with the GT-100 and your multi media files, we'll be able to suggest specific software.

    Cheers!

you may need drivers to use it as an I/O interface (not sure). Is the usb an interface or is for firmware updates only? Anyway, ASIO4ALL is a good ASIO driver to look at. It runs stable with low latency. If I remember correctly ASIO4ALL recognized my Rocksmith cable and allowed me to use it. I use a Line6 UX2 to interface with my pc for recording, looping, or just mess'en around with headphones.
