I think Stratocasters are great for reggae. An American Standard, Squier Classic Vibe..or a Jimmy Vaughn would work in that genre.

Either a Strat or an Epiphone LP will work for your needs.

The "best" guitar for any style of music is simply the one that feels right in your hands and sounds right to your ears. Strats a very versatile, but you can get a lot of out a Tele or even an LP or many other guitars. A little fact here is that most of your tone comes not from your guitar or your amp or any pedal...it comes from -you-. As I've said sooooo many times now, someone such as Eric Clapton sounds like Eric Clapton because he IS Eric Clapton.

So with that, my suggestion here as always would be to play as many guitars as you can get your hands on and let your hands, ears and heart decide which is right for you and your music.

Peace,
Jim

I sorta don't agree with the above statements. You can't hardly get a personal tone on a guitar you don't believe in. Show up for a reggae jam with a B.C. Rich Warlock and you'll probably be surrounded by daggers. Now that most certainly won't help your self esteem, or overall sound.

Could anybody imagine Stevie Ray Vaughn playing an Ibanez Jem? How about showing up for a country gig with a Gene Simmons Axe bass? Get the right guitar.

I don't disagree with you at all...

But, the OP's question is:

What is the right guitar... ??

With as little knowledge as I possess, I'd say either a Strat or a Tele. I'm lost once you get into individual models... but that's my take...

cheers!

I had already answered the opie's question. My second response was to the implied "sound is in your hands" post.

Actually your post seemed to dwell on the audience reactions to how a guitar looks, and you picked some fugly ones...
