I really liked the series a lot. I just found a highway one jazz bass for 600 dollars at a local music shop. I am seriously considering purchasing it

Models come and go. Colours too. It's just the way it is. Always has been. Get 'em while they're hot.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I would suggest it was more like a rebranding into the American Special. Note actly the same but close.

Got keep coming out with new stuff when you build an empire around a couple types of guitars and a couple types of bases.

I have been hearing this a lot. That people would choose the hwy one over an am std.

I have an 08 Am std Jazz bass and i love it. It is definitely one of the best basses i have owned. I am not a huge fan of the color blizzard pearl, but i will say that it just plays and sound so nice!

really now? what are you reasons?

I will say, the made in Indonesia squier basses are fantastic! I owned but traded when i got my Am std. A classic vibe Jazz and a vintage mod jazz. Both well built with awesome play-ability and they both sounded amazing on recordings. especially the vintage mod.

bearing in mind the highway 1 was invented as the lowst rung budget US made guitar (what the am. special now is), and me believing that MIJ guitars are at minimum american std quality, id take the MIJ over the highway 1/am special.

also fender japan pump out more variety of interesting spec guitars and finishes.

I'm not sure if the Highway's were 2nds from U.S. wood or Mexico parts assembled in the U.S.(except the later added Leo Quan bridge). Either way, the paint was horrible. I think I'd rather search for a used American Standard(or American Series) with that $600. A used MIJ Fender bass would be good too at that price.

If you read my quote, I stated, I'd go for the Hwy. One over the Am. Spl. any time. Over the American Special. Not American Standard. I personally think the American Standard is the most solid of the Fender Series Basses. Just my 2 cents.

I love the Highway 1 series. I have three HGWY1 tele's (Sunburst, Daphne Blue and FSR Butterscotch) they are excellent guitars to me the necks are very playable with their Jumbo frets.

I have an American Special Strat and that is to my mind an updated version of the HGWY1.

Just ordered and AmSp Tele so will be able to compare more closely. One factor for the HGWY's demise could be that Fender had already updated the series once (2006) and by discontinuing one and introducing another they could hike the price by £200.

I would certainly pick up a HGWY1 strat at the right price.

I really liked the HWY1, but I think it didn't sell as well because of the satin finish and the pickups.

I see the Am. Spc as a modified Hwy1. I think that if Fender had buffed out the finished and used the American Spc pickups, it would still be on the marcket.
