so i had the new ps-6 boss harmonist for a few weeks, then fell on some hard times and needed money fast so took it back , got my money with the no hassle money back guarantee at best buy.... now that things are a little better i'm looking into replacing it with a digitech whammy, which you can find on CL locally for around 100 used.
anyone use a whammy? used one before? thoughts/ advice? I'm mostly just wanting it for the octave abilities, just for neat weird rhythms and such.... any thoughts on it would be appreciated.
but , ive sent SIX different people on CL messages.... most of them were posted within the last week...and no one has messaged me back in two days. really? If your item is sold, take it down! how complicated is that? or if it's not, and you want to sell, EMAIL SOMEONE BACK! i've said very clearly in my emails i have cash in hand, ready to buy right now, let's meet up. and nothing. grrrr.... makes me crazy. okay, that's all. end rant

A whammy pedal is an awesome creative tool, and is a staple on any pedal board I've used in the last 12 years or so. My first was a Whammy 2, and I've bought 2 or 3 of the current model between then and now, as I've sold the one I had before during times of not playing guitar in a band. Everyone from Tom Morello to David Gilmour has made cool, interesting, musical use of them. Like anything, it takes a bit to find a way to use it tastefully and not overdo it, but there are a multitude of uses for it in the right place.

One of my favorite Whammy examples:

(Skip to about the 3:00 mark for the lead with the whammy)

Good pedal you can make all kinds of sounds with it. The pitch doesn't track perfectly when playing chords, which is part of it's charm. You can get all kinds of weird and wonderful tones with it. I think the newer version sounds the best though as you can alter your tuning like 6 half steps below or something.

I like to combine it with echo and ebow for some out there sounds.

I have the older version.

awesome, Gilmour is the man. yeah i've been reading up on them. I'd love to have the newest version but i don't wanna spend that much. the 4th version is the one i'm finding for 100 bucks right now. really digging the chrome 20th anniversary, hoping that guy emails me back.

Yeah Gilmour uses it tastefully and Morello too from RATM. Also heard Satriani do some cool things with it.

I also like to play it on the harmony setting to make a single note riff really heavy. 8)

The one i've got is the red reissue of the original model.

talked to a guy today who would sell me his for 90 but he has no power supply... called the guitar shops in the area, the only one who has one in stock, and only ONE is guitar center. 21.99 $ ouch. should i spend the 110 bucks now ? or should i save some money for a few weeks and get the new V5 that i can use with my onespot , with all its fancy updates and smaller size? so...less space being taken on my board. hmmm.... decisions, decisions. also the v5 has true bypass and does chords better than ever before. i think it might be worth the wait. friends?

Difficult to say really. Depends on how much you want the new features in the newer model.

I'd probably wait for the new one. But the older one's are cool too. :|

haha.... well, i went to sam ash.. they didn't have the one i want, but they had the DT - so i plugged in and made some noise for a bit. sounds awesome. i'm super impressed. I had them order the normal version 5.... should be in in a few days. watch for my NGD post :)
and mac, theyre selling like hotcakes on cl for 100 bucks, man. i say sell it and get yourself a new one.
the one cool thing about the DT is it has a momentary on button built in, which was one of the popular mods to the old one. as well as the true bypass. gotta love a company that's smart enough to say "hey, look what these guys are doing to our pedals...that's a great idea! let's do it!"

I may have to... sounds like the new one is finally a vast improvement. I always wondered what the actual benefit of midi controlability was... but true bypass and momentary on, those are upgrades that make sense to everyone, not just guys running a ton of midi effects and switchers. Time to go shopping again... LOL!

jeez. i told sam ash to get me one about 4 days ago , they said it'd only take "a few days" .... i called them today and they said it was supposed to get there on the 22nd. really? but then he checked the system and another store got a shipment, so he's getting it transferred and it should be in by sometime next week. good lord. i could've ordered from sweetwater and already had it on my board by now.

The MIDI part of it is a nice feature if you have a rack setup. MIDI allows you to send a controller signal to use the actual sound without manually hitting the foot pedal. It keeps your Whammy safe and protected in the rack instead of on the floor under your feet.

It's a great pedal no matter which version of it you get.
