What you are describing sounds a lot like A.L.S it starts in one of the limbs such as a leg or an arm.

There are so many diseases, conditions and syndromes that the condition in my hands resembles what could be one of dozens. The fact that both hands and forearms were affected simultaneously basically rules out ALS plus where there is blanching and blotchiness in the palms and fingers,Raynauds Syndrome or Phenomenon seems to be the main culprit for now although there are many other neuro-muscular conditions that could be involved. I used to weight train and a couple of doctors and therapists have told me that muscles that were once over-developed could be shrunken now causing them to impinge on nerves that they share certain pathways with and causing some of the symptoms.

Interesting. I, too, have Renaud's, it's one of the reasons I moved to Florida. But my doctor says it's hereditary...my mother has it as well.

Well I'm glad to hear you're finally getting to the gist of the problems and like all of the other forumites I wish you the best and hope for some kind of relief to your ailment. My guess is that leaving the Rock is not a viable option, though I'm sure that warmer drier climbs might help. Any howdy hang in there brother, the solution may be just around the corner

Best wishes to you. I hope they quickly find exactly what the problem is and are able to restore your hands to the point where you can enjoy playing again.
Thoughts and prayers with you.

Best wishes from me too Derek
I have reverse carpal tunnel syndrome in my ring and pinky finger of my right hand
It started out about 7 years ago where I kept getting pins and needles in my pinky (I think mine was caused by pushing down on a tile cutter to snap heavy floor tiles, so I changed the cutter) It was explained to me as similar to repetitive strain injury

I was working for a doctor and he said to get your brain to accept that it wasn't pins and needles , I tried that and they are now a lot better and the only time they bother me, is when it's weather like it has been in the UK lately, freezing (one of the reasons why we have our house up for sale and are moving to Turkey)

It can improve quite a bit, what originally was complete numbness in both fingers is now just isolated to the fingerprint pad of my pinky

Good luck, sir! I hope you and your doctors can get to the root of the problem ASAP and you can get back to playing without pain.

Thanks very much guys, all the good wishes are very inspiring. My accupuncturist recommended an infrared heating pad that has natural jade stones in it,it's called the Therasage and I tried it for the first time last night and was just amazed by the difference that it made and the relief that it gave me after just one treatment.Unlike most heating pads these penetrate very deep into the tissue which more than doubles the theraputic effect. If anyone is interested the site is: http://www.therasage.com/ pads cost anywhere from around $40 up into a few hundred. The pad I got was just over $200,but that included over $30 in Customs and Duties plus the shipping to Canada. The U.S. retail is about $150 for the 20" X 30" pad with over 120 jade stones.I should soon be getting the results of the MRI I had done on my head yesterday, the neurologist is thinking that there's more to the condition in my hands than just Raynauds and carpal tunnel syndrome.

BTW Ted, I also have my ring fingers and pinkies affected and it's refered to as Cubital Tunnel Syndrome-the neurologist thinks that's playing a part in it too. I am sure that a move to a more tropical climate would be a great help for me as well. Our plans to be going to Jamaica in the spring fell through and now we're going to Labrador in April to visit our daughter's instead. The weather is still in the -20C vicinity there that time of year,so as much as I'm looking forward to seeing the girls,I'm not looking forward to the cold weather one bit.
