Could a mod PLEASE clear out the spam here? And maybe think about imposing some word filters to stop the spammers?

Thank you all for not replying to spam posts. Just let it die if it doesn't get removed quickly.

It can be fun wasting the time of the unblockable overseas spam phone callers - I have several entertaining ways of doing that. I wish I knew how to do the same thing with the internet spammers - I s'pose that's the holy grail of the electronic fight back...

(As of this moment over a dozen spam threads from one username, and rising. Streuth! Get off our land!)

Cheers - C

I had one of these calls recently ...

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/secur ... be-victim/

.. from a number in Kenya. I kept him on the line for about 20 minutes acting dumb, telling him to wait while I sat in front of the computer, asking if I needed to turn it on, all the dumb stuff I could think of. Eventually I just told him to stop scamming me and he hung up. Fun while it lasted though.

I like to come over all wide-eyed and dumb and offer to go and get my credit card details for them. You can hear at the other end of the line they can't believe their luck. Then I just go away and do something else for an hour. ...Obviously, no good if you're expecting an important call.

And someone a couple of days ago was saying he let's them go all through their routine, leaves a long, pregnant pause and then says in a deep, breathy voice; "I am wearing no underwear...". At the other end they just can't hang up fast enough! Mwaaahahaha!

Cheers - C

"I'm afraid he can't come to the phone right now, he's playing with himself" usually gets them off the line fairly quickly.

I've had them on the phone about 4 different times telling me i have a problem with my PC.

The first time i thought foolishly it was legit because they sounded so plausible but even so i had major doubts in my mind.

I let him ramble on and he wanted me to get my computer and follow instructions and he'd solve the problems remotely for me! So i pretended to go so far with what he said then i stopped and he's saying "are you having a dialogue with the instructions you're being given on the screen?" LOL!

Sad thing is some poor folks who are not on the ball and savvy could get conned by these crooks.

What are Microsoft, or the Police, or whoever, doing about this? I hear of it happening all the time but never hear about any of these creeps getting caught and jailed, what gives?

Might be Monday before this is addressed.

I'm glad people aren't responding because this will make Brad's cleanup job much easier, however this may not happen until Monday. :(

As for this particular strain of Spam, it may contain nasties. Just from the title the thread looked like spam. When I clicked to view with the intention to report it, Chrome issued a warning about the site containing malware. This was a bit surprising because I clicked on the title of the thread on the forum NOT on any link inside the post. Maybe my browser is being overly cautious? Anyhow, nasty stuff we can do without.

I think we're now up to 27 or so posts by this one spammer.

Cheers!
BM

I know, and this adds to the problem. Spambots can tell when their posts don't get deleted and they will mark this as a forum where spam posts stay active. Apart from being another reason not to reply to spam posts, it also means moderators should a) remove the spam as quickly as possible and b) edit the posts to remove the links to the spammers' websites.

One thing that would help on this end would be shooting a quick note to ForumAdmin@fender.com whenever we have something like what happened here a bit ago. As part of my normal gig here I do tend to watch emails over the weekend whereas I don't necessarily actively head to the forums themselves. And, as others have noted here - do not respond to posts of this nature when they come in as that makes it much more difficult to eradicate the issue.
