To preface this post, I should say that I've never been a "strat guy", in fact far from it. Any time I've bought one and tried to like it, I've turned around and sold it within a month... I just don't like strats. I'm a PRS/Les Paul guy. I like my humbuckers, and that's that. I'm also extremely partial to a carved top and a set neck. I don't even like dots on a fretboard, LOL!

Anyway, I took the satin MIM Strat I got on craigslist last week to practice last night, with the PRS Custom 22 as a tagalong in case the strat just sounded like crap through the Mesa.

I never even opened the PRS case. :o

The strat felt comfortable, played great, (I did a full setup on it myself, and restrung it with Cobalt 11's,) and sounded pretty beast on high gain settings. On clean tone, it had that "strat shimmer", and heavily distorted, it had the brightness of a strat but wasn't shrill and painful like some single coil guitars have been for me in the past. I did have to kick on the NS-2 to keep it from shreiking when I wasn't playing it, but that's to be expected. All in all, it was a surprisingly invigorating experience... I was playing far more agressively than usual, due to the heavier strings coupled with the fact that I had no emotional ties to the guitar and therefore no concerns with damaging the finish in any way, lol... Also, I actually was using the pinkie volume knob method of adjusting gain as opposed to using the volume pedal on the floor, which I normally never do. I doubt it will become standard procedure for me, but it wasn't as foreign to me as it usually is on all other guitars.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think after almost 20 years of playing, I actually like a Strat.

I don't think I'll be changing anything on this strat... the 2 humbucker silverburst strat will have to be a partscaster build in the future... this one is staying as-is. :D

Yeah, about the only thing I find lacking on it is the trem, I was spoiled by the PRS trem. I don't know if I'll go that route on this one, but if I build the silverburst I want to do, I will definitely put a Mann Made bridge on it. I think this one needs to stay exactly as-is.

I have no experience with those - I guess they are great. So why not ? Nowadays I'm not so much into using the trem at all - I play more and more teles  For me these things comes in waves - I am considering removing the blocking of the Floyd Rose on my Carvin

The jet king is pretty cool, but I'm on the fence with the pickups in it. They seem weak for a P-90... Other than that, for a cheapie it's pretty cool. The pickguards were a pain to figure out... the white ones it came with were messed up by the original owner, and proved almost impossible to replace. I ended up having them traced and re-drawn here at work (I work at a company that builds industrial signs, like for car dealerships and banks), and then cut on a CNC table out of .080" aluminum. the Jet King logo is a vinyl decal cut out of the same reflective vinyl we use for address numbers on signs... it's black from most angles, but reflects a bright white under light. Since that pic, I replaced the knobs with chrome knobs to complete the look. It's kind of like a bastard offspring of a Tele and a Jaguar or something, with that offset body... I think if I put some P-90 sized humbuckers in it, it would be a keeper... but I'll probably just end up selling it for the $200 I have in it. 8)

Last year at the SEMA convention in Vegas I notice how popular satin finish was on custom cars. There was a satin red BMW the same shade as a Strat. I passed up a few months before. After that I looked for a year for one with an excellent finish (the satin lacquer finish shows rub marks easily). You have a beautiful guitar! I might have to find a blue one like yours now. Can't stop my GAS.

hahah how right was i in convincing you ? :D

i was exactly the same, zero interest in strats, i picked one up, same colour as yours but with a maple neck, because i had nothing else to do while waiting for a mate buying a guitar.

i only picked it up because of the finish, it intrigued me. played it for all of 10 seconds and couldnt believe how 'right' it felt. obviously i ended up buying it 10 minutes later. id like the other colours if i can find them, gotta be with maple necks though.

Yeah, I guess you were... LOL!

Now I'm starting to scare myself with GAS again... They have a maple neck MIM strat (identical to one I bought and then sold about 2 years ago... :x ) up at Guitar Center in black with black pickguard and aged white plastic bits... basically a MIM Gilmour Strat clone, without all the functional mods that make a Gilmour a Gilmour... they only want $419 for it right now. And then I'm still thinking of my silverburst build idea, looking at bodies on GuitarFetish and thinking of looking for a MIM neck on ebay... and I really don't have the cash for any of it at the moment. :(
