I find that there is a lack of bass models in Fender Custom Shop.

At the moment there are 5 bass models.

http://www.fender.com/custom-shop/basses/

And there are 50 guitar models

Thats 10 times more, why CS why?

Customer demand. These people know how to look at a balance sheet.

There again, the very concept of a Custom Shop is that you can order what you want and they tailor make it. So unlike a regular factory, if you don't see what you want in the catalog - there's a nice solution! :D

Cheers - C

Can you order what you want as teambuilt instrument or do you have go for a master build?

A favorite bass tends to be the one we play. Guitars are more for swinging. I'm a bass player, with 2 basses and 6 guitars. Of course, if they tempted us more......

It's entirely possible that things have changed since I last looked into this but when I did they told me that as long as what you want is not too far "out there" meaning standard body and neck shapes and Fender pups and hardware I think the team can build you most combination you like. I believe once you get into laminated tops or custom paint jobs or special inlays then it has to be team built. If that's no longer the case I'm sure someone will correct me.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Say I want a 60s or late 50s P Bass with added J pup in the bridge position both pick ups custom hand wound, alder slab body , vintage bridge , chunky p bass neck with 1.75 nut with maple fret board, vintage style frets and black dot inlays, vintage reverse tuners, three color sunburst with gold color pick guard, and finger rest?

I can only give you a rough general idea about what could be and what might not be a team or master build guitar. If you want an actual quote you need to contact an authorised Custom Shop dealer.
