What is the best guitar you've ever played and when did you play it?

Not a lot of experience here, but I'll play...

In my very limited experience, I'd have to say my FSR Ltd. Ed. American Vintage '57 Stratocaster and my 2010 Heritage H-535 (though I'm sure there are even better guitars out there).

Both have excellent build quality and have a more solid feel than my '99 MIM Telecaster Deluxe.

If I had to narrow it to just one, I'd have to go with the Heritage (still a loyal Fender Fan). The set, bound neck and body w/ PLEK frets, Grover Tuners gives it a slight edge over the Stratocaster, it just seems better built and a little more solid. They're not same-same so Tone and Hardware can't be compared.

There are things I like about each of them, but really nothing I don't like.

Played them both today!

cheers!

Years ago I saw a Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary model in a store. Even though I knew I couldn't afford it, the salesman practically forced it into my hands--it was real nice.

Sounded great, played great, I loved it--could have used a bit of extra cash at the time to buy it, but I couldn't...

But I've played lots of real nice guitars over the years--of many brands.

That would be my #1, "Moby": American Standard from 86/87, oly white and I play it almost every day.

I also played an Ibanez UV77MC once, which really blew me away:

I also would say that PRS is amongst the very best you can get! I played one and it's awesome! (don't remember the model).

My PRS Custom 22 and the PRS Singlecut Trem I had a while back are my top 2. (I've owned over 50 guitars, so that's saying a lot, LOL!) Third place would probably go to the Parker Fly Deluxe I had back in '02. My old 2008 Les Paul Traditional (which I traded for the PRS Singlecut) would also be a good contender for third place... if it stayed in tune. As is, it is a solid fourth.

Basses, my scope of experience is much more limited, but my Geddy Lee and my 2 Gibson Les Paul basses are all currently tied. I like the tone of the Gibsons better, but I like the neck on the Geddy better, so it's a tough call as to which one wins overall "best" designation. I think the antigua burst Jazz Bass I have is the best looking , but again that's a very close call between it and the cherry burst LP bass.

I think once I finally get to play a PRS bass, the competition will be over though.

My old '62 Strat...played it during the mid to late 70's and should have NEVER sold it :!: I got a shiney new Les Paul Custom and thought it was the best for about a month! That one I don't miss. A close second is a '64 ES345 a buddy had, that sucker played so smooth, I loved playing that puppy.

I like my 2005 American Series Stratocaster. I don't need (or deserve) anything better. This is what it looked like the day I brought it home . . .

The best guitar I've ever played is a Custom Shop 1965 Stratocaster.

I play her about once a week, usually on a Saturday, when I take her off the wall and plug her into a HRD although lately I've also been playing her through a SS22. Man, what a sound! She can quack, she can scream, she can purr and she can sing, sometimes all at once. ... After a while I put her back on the hanger, and then I'm sure to thank my friendly Fender Custom Shop Dealer who keeps wondering when I'm going to take her home. Of course I'd love to but ... $$$$$ ....

Cheers!
