I seen someone else already posted a link for the DiPinto Guitars.
http://www.dipintoguitars.com/
I had been curious about them since seeing Los Staitjackets use their guitars and basses.
And they (Los Straitjackets) seem to get really good tone from them.
Plus, they're sparkley! 8)

Always been a fan of Patrick Eggle guitars, made in good old Blighty!

Image

I had an original Berlin Pro back in the 90's, absolutely lovely thing to play, and when I called the company to ask about the slightly unusual switching, they put me through to someone who said "Aha! I remember that one, I made most of it!" and spent nearly an hour on the phone with me chatting about various guitar related things, which was awesome.

Replaced it with a PRS Custom 24, which never quite felt as nice as the Eggle. They went through a bit of a dodgy period for a while after about 1996, but they seem to be right back at the top of their game again now putting out some loooovely instruments.

@ M*Campbell,You were certainly misinformed with respect to the original Vox guitars. The Vox guitars from the 60s were made in England up until circa 1964 when the construction of them was passed onto an Italian guitar company. Some of their guitars were somewhat delicate and one or two models such as the Vox organ guitar which was a nightmare to fix if anything went wrong with them-which unfortunately often did. All in all Vox guitars were extremely good players and quite comfortable to play-except for the Phantom and Teardrop models which weren't able to played in sitting position unless you had a strap.

As the owner of 3 vintage Vox guitars I can give you first hand knowledge that even though my Voxes are almost 50 years old they haven't given me one minute's worth of trouble in the almost 40 years that I've owned them.
My Italian made Vox Mk. VI Acoustic has amazingly low action and sounds very Stratlike but being a hollow body has a much fully and dare I say-richer tone.
My MII Phantom XII is a 12 string 3 pup model with an extremely skinny neck for a 12 string but I never use the vibrato mechanism because from the day the first ones left the factory they were notorious for going out of tune if you used the whammy.
My violin shaped hollow bodied Astro IV Model V-273 Bass is also an incredible player
plus it has great features that were decades ahead of the competition. The bass has built in Bass and Treble Boost,A great fuzz unit and a G-tuner which emits a G note when switched on.
Some people have negative opinions of vintage Voxes probably because they were a bit on the delicate side(but definitely not flimsy)but as far as overall tone and playability go,they are exceptional.Vox guitars are very popular and used regularly by musician such as Tom Petty,Mike Campbell,Rick Neilson and they were also extensively used by Brian Jones and Bill Wyman of the Stones. If another vintage Vox crossed my path again I wouldn't hesitate to buy it,provided that I had the money on hand-then again I'd put it on my plastic even if it meant having to go to the food bank for a few weeks...lol.

As a youngster I was intrigued by the Vox guitars being made in the '60s. A company called Phantom Guitar Works is making reasonably priced reproductions of them like those below. The real things are too pricey today if you can find one at all. http://www.phantomguitars.com/

They look kinda groovey, and I recall Brian Jones played one like the white one (the actual Vox version), but I have read that they are actually really crappy guitars.

I've never read a review and I've never had a chance to play one so it's a shame to hear they aren't that good. BTW, they do make a couple of Brian Jones models -- 6- and 12-string teardrop models. I remember the Phantom model too, but I could have sworn I saw it back in the day branded as a VOX Californian. Can't find anything on the 'net to substantiate that.

Guys,I don'y know if you read my post about Vox guitars but they are by no means crappy or inferior guitars and are in fact quite well made and play great and sound incredible .As the owner of 3 vintage 60s Voxes I can vouch for that first hand.As I stated befor such famous artist such as Tom Petty,Mike Campbell,Brian Jones,Bill Wyman,John Entwhistle played them a lot.In an interview a couple of years ago Tom Petty was being asked about his large guitar collection and asked what his Holy Grail guitar was.Despite being the owner of some of the most revered Rickenbackers,Firebirds etc in the world he stated that of all the guitars in the world, the one he wanted most to own was the same rare model that I have-a Vox Astro IV Model V-273 violin bass.

Vox has recently released the Apache series of guitars which are copies of the MK series- commonly refered to as the Teardrop (Apache I) and Phantom series (Apache II).These new Voxes couldn't use their original names because the company that makes the Phantom Vox copies made a shrewd move some years ago and bought the rights to the Teardrop and Phantom names and body shapes when Vox Guitars were in limbo and not being produced any more.

The new Apache guitars are more or less travel guitars with built overdrive and boost in the on-board amp with 2-3" Speakers. They also have over 60 different drum beat patterns built in and are able to be used with a guitar amp too. They only have one single coil pickup and look very cheesy.I don't know about the quality of these but I do know that the other recent Vox guitars are of exceptional quality in every way.

You can check out what the owners of vintage and new Vox guitars have to say about them here: http://www.voxamps.com/ Just click on the Forum box at the top of the home page and it will take you to the topics index. Vox guitar owners are just as passionate about their gutars as Fender owners and for good reason.

EDIT: You can get great technical info about vintage Vox guitars at a site that North Coast Music-a company that specializes and is authorized by Vox to make exact replicas of original Vox cabinets, using the original Tolex and grille weave materials. Their site has detailed diagrams and exploded views of the guitars as well as detailed speca and original prices. You can check them out here: http://www.voxshowroom.com it's a great way for a Vox fan or anyone interested in the brand to get detailed technical info.

Makes me think of being on a recon. flight over a next to impossible to get to surf spot, looking down at perfectly peeling 6 to 8 foot lefts and rights, and realizing that in the water is neither surfers or seals but a school of sharks....
