Very interesting warts-and-all documentary.

Two-parter.

1st one infinitely more interesting than the second - and a lot less acidic.

Early live footage and Ronstadt stuff really cool.

Super tight proficient band w/ 2 guitars, bass, and drums.

Bernie Leadon - very together, couldn't-give-a-crap guy. Loved his playing. Never took junk from anybody.

Frey got Felder out of the band and is STILL mad at him. His retelling of his ultimatum to Felder is an old, angry rich guy who still has to be in charge.

Henley comes across much better.

By the end of it you realize that at any time in their history if they were given an ultimatum that they'd have to replace any of their fellow band members or Irving Azoff - Joe Walsh and the others should be nervous - Irving was a member of the troika.

Everybody else was expendable.

+1...And did you notice, the Eagles have kind of sucked ever since they Fired Don Felder? I like Joe Walsh, but Felder made him a better player...at least in the Eagles! Yeah ol Glenn Fry comes off like a real dousch on the show.

I saw Don Felder at Corvette Funfest two years ago...and he absolutely smoked and played some real beautiful guitars...and not sure why he didn't sing Victim of Love on the Hotel California, that guy can sing just as good as Frey or Henly!

The concert footage was great though. Wait till you see part two...Felder chokes up and it was very obvious he was really hurt that they kicked him out, but Frey just had to be a egotistical control freak. The way I look at it, Frey was threatened by Felder in a way.

And let's not forget, the Eagles now are like a gigantic corporation so I'm sure Felder made out okay with the settlement.

Frey was, and still is pissed about the amount so Felder must have gotten a pretty sizable chunk.

The film was directed by Alex Gibney, who is a talented documentary film maker. I got to meet him briefly several years ago. His other work is equally informative and entertaining, and he does a great job of telling a story, giving the subjects just enough rope to make themselves look either really bad or really good.

I dug it - caught both. I was surprised how much old footage they had. David Geffen comes off like a dkhd. Glen Frey comes off like an entrepreneur - not too many CEO's of companies that big who aren't arrogant.

Having just finished reading Felder's book - - this documentary was perfect timing (for me) to be broadcast.

Not much love for The Eagles, I see. :?

I thought there would be more interest.

I loved all the cool guitars in the Eagles doc especially Frey's bastardized 50's Les Paul Jr that he's had forever, Felder's '59 Paul, the fact Frey used a Martin flattop w/ a DeArmond soundhole pickup so extensively and made it work, Leadon's brown Tele, Walsh's Tele on the Hotel California live clip (phenomenal Walsh solo on that).

I used to have a lot of love for The Eagles, back in the day.

But the arrogance and out-of-control egos of both Glenn Frey and Don Henley have made me really start to despise the band. :( :x

They drove away Bernie Leadon after their One Of These Nights album, and also Randy Meisner after their famous Hotel California album. The band hasn't been the same since.

Edit: I remember hearing about The Long Run album and tour - especially their tour around 1980, where Glenn Frey and (I think) Don Felder were so hateful towards each other, there were reports of the guys threatening each other live on stage in between songs, right in front of the audience too!!!

I can'y help liking the Eagles, despite my nauseous aversion to country; they serve it up with spoonfuls of honey. I have a half decent audio system, and it's clear they produced their records superbly. It shows that much.

Haven't seen the doc yet, but Frey was over here in West Oz just the other week and did a long interview , talked about it lot. Didn't come across as perhaps he did in the film? He said they wanted it to e completely honest, and that meant some of it wasn't pretty. But if they weren't going to do that, thy didn't see the point.

You have to forgive people their faults when life gets huge; you can think you an immortal, who can do no wrong. The ego takes control. Especially working out of SoCal, when every lickspittle that gathers around you tells you as much, and gets you anything and everything you want, when you want it. Or even before.
